Had read this restaurant was one of the best places to eat in Como. It's a lovely setting and has a nice atmosphere. The food was of high standard and very nice but a shame their service and hospitality wasn't on the same level.
Firstly we were told no tap water was available so had to buy a bottle, so we ordered one for the table. We never actually received it. We wanted to buy a half bottle of wine (there were three to choose from on the menu) but we told none of these were available. We wanted a local bottle of wine so ordered a full size one (only 1 variety was available).
We had our starter which was lovely, the waiter then cleared our plates and asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu. We hadn't even had our main course yet!
Main courses then arrived which were very nice. Plates were cleared before all of the table had finished eating. It then seems we were forgotten. No one came to ask if we would like the see the dessert menu, despite the waiters/manager walking past our table numerous times. We sat for about 30 minutes and still didn't receive any attention from staff. We then asked for the bill and had to wait for another 20 minutes before asking for it again.
One of our party went to the counter to pay the bill, and saw we had been charged for the bottle of water which we never received, so asked for this to be taken off. Staff then asked if everything was good to which we said no, they didn't care. Didn't apologise, didn't ask why. After our bill had been paid we were gathering our belongings and getting ready to leave when the head waiter/manager walked past and put another copy of our bill on the table to be paid. He didn't say anything or interact with us at all, just walked off. We had already paid so got up and left.
If you want to eat somewhere friendly and with good service then...
Read moreAbsolute tourist trap. Hostess/manager very rude from start to end and no attempt to hide it. Acted like it was a burden to seat us even though we had a reservation and were the only ones there for quite some time. My mother is an Italian native and speaks fluently but the host insisted on speaking English w us I guess to make a point we were foreigners.
Waiter was nice enough, also preferred to speak English with us, but forgot to bring us our water and failed to mention the bottle of 28€ wine we ordered was only half a liter. We sent it back and ordered something else that was in fact a full size bottle.
Appetizers were passable. Two entrees acceptable but can get better Italian food in the States. One entree was disgusting and totally inedible. We tried two forkfuls and waited a long time for the waiter to come back and explained to him that we could not eat it. He apologized and offered to make something else.
When the bill came we were surprised to see both entrees on the check and assumed it was a mistake. We asked the waiter about it and he said “ so you want me to take it off?” Now speaking in Italian. We said yea we did not eat it and sent it back so of course. Then the rude host/manager comes barging over to our table and accuses us of eating half the dish! We had literally two bites! We refute this obviously and state it is the proper thing to do to take it off the bill. She dismissively and abruptly agrees and takes off, sending a totally new waiter back with the corrected check. Have never been treated this way in a restaurant anywhere in the world.
Should have been tipped off when our very nice, local cab driver said he does not come to this area to eat and has not heard...
Read moreI visited this restaurant with my partner. We were only hoping for a simple, tasty meal. As a well-travelled couple with a lot of dining out, we really only hope for simple food and a nice atmosphere. Our food was horrible. My partner's salad had 4 bite-sized pieces of ham in it, and most of it fat, only a couple of pieces of melon, and old dry mozzarella. The salad wasn't dressed, and thus was very dry. This salad cost us 18 Euros. My pasta was sloppy, overcooked and under-seasoned. When our main courses arrived, the quality was much the same and disappointed, we decided to leave and go to another restaurant we had recently visited with great food and warm service (Vintage Jazz - their pasta and grilled meats are sublime). We went to pay and the gentleman behind the counter (we think he was the manager) asked us how our meal was. We told him the truth. He then began to argue with us that no one else has ever had these comments about the food. I let him know that if I wasn't telling him the truth, why are we leaving our mains uneaten and still offering to pay. From looking at other reviews, it seems as though this feeling is held by other people. There was a lady working with him behind the counter who was very polite and said that feedback was important for them. She seemed very pleasant and he was...
