We came here after a recommendation from the staff at our nearby hotel. Overall it was a great first dinner in Florence with just a couple of quirks that kept us from giving it the highest rating.
We weren't able to arrive during one of their preferred seating times but they made an exception and found a place for us. Thanks for that!
We were treated right at the beginning to a sparkling wine apertif which we didn't order so it was nice to be welcomed that way.
We liked the foot a lot...We shared two pasta dishes, the Pico Cacio Pepe (like spaghetti noodles but super thick, served with pepper...I ended up adding a little more pepper to really get the flavor), and Tagliatelle ai Porcini Tartufati (Truffle Mushroom Pasta...this dish was the star of the meal for us...that truffle oil...mmmmm)
There were a couple of other vegetarian options too. We also ordered a Salat Mista (a mixed salad) but they forget to bring it to us so we didn't end up getting it until after the pasta courses.)
And we finished with Limoncello because they asked and our rule in Italy was if they offer Limoncello, we automatically say yes.
It was awfully hot in the restaurant which had a fan going but no real air conditioning so it was a little uncomfortable in the July heat wave that was going in.
Overall we liked the food and service and would...
Read moreI ordered the fettuccine with shrimp. At first everything seemed fine, but for me personally the dish was far too salty. On top of that, there were almost no shrimp in it – they were very small and in a miserable quantity. I tried to eat it, but after a few bites it became impossible because of the salt.
The waiter asked what was wrong, and I explained that it was too salty for me. I asked if there was something less salty that I could have instead, and I was even ready to pay for two dishes if they could bring me something I could actually enjoy.
The waiter suggested carbonara. I asked specifically if it would also be salty, since carbonara usually has bacon which already adds salt. He assured me it would be fine and that I would like it. Unfortunately, the carbonara was the worst I’ve had in Italy – extremely disappointing.
In the end when I decided to pay they only charged me for the first dish. Still, I left very unsatisfied and I think this restaurant...
Read moreWe chose to have dinner at Osteria Filetto d’Oro two days in a row for our two night stay in Firenze. The food was so amazingly tasty that my kids demanded me to write a review ! We had tagliatelle with porcini mushroom and black truffle sauce for both times and it won our unanimous vote of the best. We also had pappardelle with boar, spaghetti with assorted seafood, baked potatoes (two times too, kids loved it so much, crispy skin and soft center with gentle seasoning), grilled vegetables (my favorite, juicy and naturally sweet), fusilli with shrimp, chef’s special toast with eggs, cheese ravioli in black truffle sauce (so deeply flavorful and so generous with the sauce and black truffle slices!), tiramisu and cake. We loved every dish and we used bread to clean up every drop of the sauce on the plates! We also appreciated their fast, attentive and friendly service. Recommend it...
