Gelateria S.M.Maggiore — Restaurant in Rome

I don’t understand why this place is rated for 4.7* I am really disappointed by this ice cream shop. First of all, I wanted to take a medium cup (which basically contains 3 flavors on your choice). I asked for a medium cup with 3 flavors and I was told that or it’s a medium cup with 2 flavors or a bigger one with 3 flavors but it’s 5€. I took the smaller one (3,80€). I do not understand at all, the cup is big enough to put 3 even 4 flavors inside. I chose ricotta flavor with walnuts and figs and the fig flavor. The fig flavor was good, but ricotta one was not good at all. It didn’t have ricotta taste, just an ordinary milk taste (of course ricotta is made from milk, but still, this one didn’t taste like ricotta) and there was almost neither walnuts (just a bit of really small pieces) nor figs (I found only one little piece of dried fig inside my ice cream). I don’t recommend this place. The ice cream is not that good and why limit your customers to choose at least 3 flavors for 3,80€? Especially since the size of the cup allows to fit 4...

Mixed experience. We had four different flavours, chocolate and ferraro roche were delicious but mint chocolate and cheesecake were bland. Cone was tasteless.

What a shame that the person responding to the above review can't handle a little honest criticism. In case you misunderstood, I complimented two of your ice creams saying they were delicious the other two were tasteless, maybe it was a batch that wasn't up to your usual standard however what I tasted was tasteless, that has nothing to do with my taste for "artificial flavours". The cone was actually the worst I have tasted in all countries I have visited, please don't tell me that it is made from natural ingredients when it taste like cardboard. By the way I did find gelato place that satisfied my needs, Il gelato Roma. Your staff were nicer but all four of their ice creams that we tasted...

Updating of the original post: I'm back in Rome and I went here for gelato before I did anything else. The gelato is as good as I remember it. I had forgotten how generous the servings are. I shouldn't admit it, but when I'm in Italy I always get three scoops. Those three scoops here cost 5.50 euros but it's a bigger serving than I've gotten in other cities. Wonderful selection of flavors. I've been here twice so far and will go again before I have to leave to head home. Original post: This gelateria was close to my hotel, and once I discovered it I visited it twice a day. The gelato is wonderful. There is a large variety of flavors, both gelato and sorbetto. (I always stick with the gelato.) The flavors include all of the standards plus different ones, such as dulce de leche. The staff are friendly and the line (there is always a line)...
