Situated in the heart of Centro Storico lies the charming and hospitable L’Angolo Divino Enoteca. A short walk up the cobbled Via dei Balestradi and away from the lively Campo di Fiori will lead you to this unassuming but inviting corner establishment owned and run by the delightful Massimo Crippa.
My wife and I were introduced to Massimo by a Roman friend who relishes the fine social life that this ancient and beautiful city has to offer. At the time we were planning our wedding and so we were reliant on good local suggestions for an informal place to drink and socialise after the ceremony. We were not disappointed and have been coming to L’Angolo Divino every year when we return to Rome. It has become a place of great comfort, full of wonderful memories and always with a sense of longing to be back in Massimo’s wine bar.
Three generations of his family have been selling and sharing their passion for fine Italian wines at this location for over 50 years, so you can be guaranteed service and experience that only comes from generations of knowledge and attention to detail. The environment is small and intimate without being crowded, the walls are lined with wooden panels taken from wine cases and well stocked shelves of wine bottles, with good natural light during the day and soft lighting in the evening, all of which add to the sense of cosiness and well-being.
The service is friendly and attentive without being intrusive, with a smile and a laugh easily shared. The knowledge of Italian wines is excellent, with Massimo and his staff always willing to inform curious patrons about the regional varieties, techniques of production (old and new) and the particulars of a given vineyard and its wines. This information is always shared in a way that reflects a love and desire to share fine Italian wines with those who care to listen. The quality of the wine is exceptional, with Massimo taking the lead on sourcing only the best and exciting wines from all over Italy and beyond. His expertise and recommendations on selections are their own reward for the open-minded.
The food menu is not extensive but the quality, like the wines, reflects the careful consideration of local and regional ingredients by the kitchen. Here you can find a good pasta that is light and wholesome, polpette in a mouth-watering sauce, delicate fish dishes and a fine selection of high quality regionally produced prosciutto, salumi and cheeses: the perfect accompaniment to a delicious bottle of vino rosso or vino bianco. Of course, the homemade dishes change frequently so the range of choice remains fresh and appealing.
Bear in mind that the cost of a meal and a good bottle of wine is not going to be cheap when compared to the multitude of other wine bars in Rome. However, the quality of the products on offer and the service and knowledge that accompany them justify the price of a well spent evening here. Massimo also has a wine delivery service, shipping worldwide. We live in Australia and have ordered a selection of wines from him every time we are in Rome. The wine is well packaged and we have never had a damaged bottle for all the time that we have been ordering from L’Angolo Divino. A taste of Italy in the comfort of your own home awaits!
Perfect for an intimate evening for two, but also a place that can accommodate a larger group of friends. L’Angolo Divino is a jewel waiting to be found by those who enjoy the finer things that Italy...
Read moreWonderful place! The selection of wine is exquisite (and natural), each wine I tried I said it was my absolute favorite! I have been here many many times and each time is wonderful. The owner is meticulous about the wines he procures and his knowledge is unlike anyone you have ever met. He is a well respected authority of european wines, with personal relationships with most of Italy's most prestigious wineries. The food is delicious, one of my top 3 favorites foods in the world is from here(it is a salad they have during the summer time). This is an elegant place to find high quality wines and enjoy in a relaxing environment, you are not rushed out the door or disturbed unless you invite conversation. This is not a tourist spot, although tourists are more than welcomed. The staff is excited to educate or recommend for those who ask. The bad reviews of this place are that of unworldly tourists with narrow view points, recognize that you are in a country that predominantly speaks italian and many people may point to signs in english to make sure you understand them as opposed to struggling to find the correct words in english and possibly misinforming you. The prices are excellent, anyone who actually knows the quality of wine that this shop has (one of the best selections in the world honestly) will understand that these wines are appropriately priced. An amazing place for those without extensive wine knowledge to go and try amazing finds for great prices! This is a must try for anyone in Rome, you will walk away feeling like you have just taken a trip through the greatest wineries of Italy in the most authentic and...

We were looking for a very specific bottle of wine we tasted once and had not been able to find it again. We were seated and inquired about the particular bottle and Massimo, a true wine connoisseur knew the vineyard and even had a bottle from there on hand. He showed us several options explaining the differences. The wine was unforgettable and the fragrance and explosion of flavor will forever be in my memory.
