The staff can speak English well, but not willing to serve foreigner visitors well. We only got Japanese menu, although we could translate with Google, when we asked any recommendation, he only said all in the menu are recommended. We tried to use a closed pen to show the items we wanted to order (as the font size is small and we don’t want to order wrong items), the staff pushed my hand away. It’s not just our experience, we saw some foreigner visitors came and asked if they can have a drinks, the staff said they are not a bar but a restaurant.
The food is fair, not expensive. We were not sure if the beans were fully cooked, as they were hard and raw in taste. The sake is not cold enough which should be a problem.
We won’t recommend if you cannot speak Japanese to this restaurant, this was the first restaurant in my Kyoto trip which leaded me a poor image of...
Read moreIso Stand is a popular Izakaya with a lively ambiance and a charming and sleek interior decor. Make sure you reserve a table as even a wednesday night is fully packed! We ordered the 8-course menu for 3500 ¥ PP (something I cannot recommend highly enough for an amazing and filling dinner). I was most definietly blown away by the variety and quality across all of the courses.
The staff seem almost too young to be orchestrating such an enjoyable dining experience which makes it all the more impressive. Needless to say they were attentive and helpful. The music complimented the place and, at the time we were present, was at a good volume level! All in all a definite S-tier experience.
P.s. do not finish the bottles they leave at the table, they are for reference purposes only(heard...
Read moreReally cute and hipster izakaya place in the middle of Kyoto. They are part of a restaurant chain that is supported by their own farms which is really cool. We got the tasting menu which was 3000¥ per person for 8 courses! The dishes were really diverse and I appreciated the variety.
Be warned they don’t have an English menu, but Google translate on their website was pretty easy. Their wine/sake menu is exclusively in Japanese, so we asked them to choose a sake for us which ended up being delicious.
Tasting menu for 2 with 2 cocktails and a half carafe of...
