Before the pandemic, these skewer restaurants were unique because they had the shared ‘sauce’ tray. You would get deep fried foods on a stick, dip into the tray, and then have twenty signs telling you not to double-dip.
They even sold cabbage so you could scoop extra sauce out and dump it on your half-eaten stick of food.
Now? Well the sauce is in a squeeze bottle. You can still order cabbage to round out the meal, because otherwise you’re ordering deep fried meat and cheese. But there’s nothing particularly special about it, and it’s pretty expensive… we’re talking about 100-200 yen per skewer, and I find that most people can easily eat 10+ skewers.
They take a variety of payments and offer an English menu. Staff is used to dealing with non-Japanese speakers. This particular location had basically no line on a weekend afternoon, and has a ton of seating (both counter and tables).
