When the waitress brought out disposable chopsticks I knew that the reviews were inflated about the quality of service and food. I ordered the Kobe set special and was disappointed from beginning to end, starting from the disposable chopsticks that the store thought would be appropriate for handling premium meat. Whatever cut of meat used for the sashimi was too chewy. The teppanyaki steak was also chewy. The beef broth was gamey. Rice had become hard/dehydrated near the top like they didn't turn over newly cooked rice and just scooped off of the top. Salad was the only thing that tasted good, but the presentation made it look cheap with a streak of what looks like white mayo on top (and, I did not pay premium money for salad). Waitress spoke hardly any English but was friendly enough. Ultimately, the descrepancy between my expectations and reality was so great that I could not get out of there fast enough. I did visit another Kobe beef fine dining place that, for about 30% more, offered a truly 5 star experience over well-paced 6 courses using A5 Kobe beef. If you want a "real" Kobe beef experience, you owe it to yourself to do it "right" and splurge on fine dining costing marginally more, not on a place that uses...
Read moreCame from a Nikko day tour with drop off at Yaesu Bus Terminal when me and my family accidentally saw this restaurant. We initially planned on having ramen for dinner which is adjacent to Daia.
However, I made a last minute change to our dinner plans so we can try wagyu beef upon seeing a meal set which apparently was just offered for lunch. My mistake and the restaurant staff apologized for this even if it was not necessary.
Claude is very welcoming and warm as we tentatively entered the restaurant. He guided us through the menu and we settled for 3 meal sets for a family of 4.
We very much enjoyed the meal, the ambience and the consideration showed by Claude and the other restaurant staff (sorry I didn’t notice if he was wearing a name plate). I didn’t have to ask for an extra bowl and they brought it out so I could share the third set with our youngest.
We capped off our dinner with the complimentary matcha ice cream for our family and paper cranes for our girls.
We appreciate these gestures and the wonderful food experience!
I later learned that there is a branch in Ueno and it would be nice to try it to just so to compare and check consistency in the food...
Read moreI'm writing this review because given our experience, I don't think this location deserves such a flawless rating (4.9 at the time of writing).
Let's get the good out of the way, the flavor of the food was quite good. We got 2 different cuts of their Kobe offerings, the premium at 10780 yen, and the fillet at 27280 yen, as well as a combo set add-on (soup, salad, dessert). At this price I was expecting good things and for the most part it did not disappoint. Service was excellent and the waiter and waitress spoke good English as well which was a plus.
That said, here are a few reasons why I only give them 3 (3.5 but I'm not allowed half stars).
beef was delicious, but overly salty the place resembles a diner, so the meat was served on a plate instead of being grilled for you live. This meant that about halfway through our meal, the meat was stone cold atmosphere is what you'd expect for a diner like place, nothing fancy
Overall, I think for an intro to Kobe beef, this place is fine if you're willing to spend that money, but I think there are better locations for it for sure given how...
