The best ramen we had in Tokyo. This was our second trip to Ramen Street and we waited on line for about 5min. We decided to go all out and try three different types of ramen. We ordered #1 Tonkotsu, #4 Dandan, and #6 Spicy Tsukemen. All three were great, very rich broth, great meat and toppings and the noodles were very tasty. Our favorite was #4 and it was also the first truly spicy broth we had. The pork was sweet but also falling apart and the medium thick noodles were ideal to pick up the broth. Our next favorite was the Tonkotsu which was rich, creamy, and very well balanced the chashu was the best we had so far and the only negative was the ultra thin noodles - I would have enjoyed a slightly thicker cut. This was the first time we had Tsukemen style ramen and while tasty I don’t think we will order again. I just don’t enjoy having to struggle to transfer the noodles from one dish to another, plus the dipping ingredients are served cold. This dish, however, had the best noodles. I wish we could return but alas there are so many more...
Read moreSadly disappointing standard fare in an expensive location. I had the DX and my company the Tsukemen. The broth was bland and unremarkable, without strong flavor or any real kick. Thin noodles in the ramen, soggy noodles in the tsukemen. The mushroom and mentaiko (why??) toppings did not fit the ramen in my opinion. The chaashuu is above average, and nothing is offensively bad, so I was tempted to give 3 stars, but the disappointment and high price weighed more heavily. Given Rokurinsha's excellent Tsukemen and the advertisements, I assumed that the stores in the Ramen Street were curated, but this was so far below my expectations that I don't know what to think. Except that you can do so much better anywhere in Tokyo and I can't recommend...
Read moreI guess just because you’re on Ramen street doesn’t mean you’re great? I dropped in during the morning on Sunday around 10, there was no line and I was attracted by the morning pricing. The vending machine has a row dedicated to morning-priced meals.
I hate to rag on any place, but the noodles here had no bounce to them and had an unpleasant chewy texture. I think they might have been frozen overnight or something, because it was a pretty big disappointment. Broth was standard, and it does come with a massive heaping pile of beansprouts and fresh garlic. Honestly if this wasn’t in Japan it would be fine, but knowing what’s just around the corner makes me reluctant to give it even an average rating. At least it’s a huge portion...
