Chicken Thigh Roast Coconut Curry 🍗🍛 @sawamura_bakeryrestaurant
I first experienced Sawamura when visiting Karuizawa many years ago and was impressed with their food & bread so was happy to see that they have multiple locations in Tokyo. 🥺
The Shinjuku NEWoMan location is always pretty busy and usually has a substantial queue so be prepared to wait as they don't accept reservations for lunch (only dinner). 👥
My favorite part of lunch is that you can eat as much bread as you like! At any one time, there are 9-13 different varieties available, all of them are delicious and you can even request certain types (sour, hard, wheaty, etc.). 🥖🔁
All bread is served warm and is perfect for pairing with your main course, soaking up any soup, sauces or simply dipping in olive oil with salt & pepper. Being a cheat day I greedily asked for 2 refills and tried at least 8-9 kinds of bread including: Baguette, Pain du Lodeve, Campagne, Brioche Nanterre, Pain au Noix, Pain de Mie Céréales and others which I cannot remember! 😋
The main course of roasted chicken thighs was very tasty, with a fragrant & crispy golden brown skin and moist & tender meat. Underneath the chicken meat was a creamy coconut curry, black rice with butter and fried vegetables. 🥕🥬
The curry was very creamy and rich, with not too much spice. The portion of rice was only small, but given that it was buttery and rich, plus you are likely to eat a lot of bread, it is just the right amount. 👌🏼
If you are a bread lover and have never tried Sawamura before, this is a must-visit! Please note that all locations have differing menus. ⚠️

Read moreWe came here for breakfast but they seem to be open for dinner as well. We got the Bacon & Egg set, and French Toast set with Cappuccinos. Breads here is really good. Thick, fluffy and dense . French toast was also really good, crispy on the outside & super soft and moist on the inside. It already has some sweetness (caramelized sugar on top), perfect for me , no need to add more syrup..but if you want it more sweet, there was syrup served in a small cup on the plate. It also had some crème fraiche or some kind of tangy whipped cheese. Eggs (Sunny side up) cooked very well ...egg yolk was oozy! Veggie soup that came with bacon set was prettty yummy ..seasoned well, many ingredients in it. Many vegetables and light. Sausage with egg set was yummy ..bacon was a little too salty for me but beautiful thick cut. Coffee here is surprisingly good. We were originally going to go to Verve or Blue Bottle in the same building but we weren't disappointed with the coffee here. This place has full bar, I saw Japanese whiskey, vodka & sake . I will come back for that. Servers are good and were friendly. Not super smiley friendly but good. Some people were complaining about price. It's in Shinjuku station....get real. It's a sit down place. Rent is gonna be crazy. If you want cheaper food go to a fast food stall or go to a...

Sound very simple right, nah... Japanese are very good at turning the most simple dishes into something that is fascinated. They are so focus on details.
