You can request an English menu with the staff. There were two of us and they required us to order two items, so we ordered the monjayaki and a cucumber miso appetizer (which was just raw cucumber with a pork and miso paste on the side, nothing crazy). For the monjayaki, we ordered the chicken and egg monjayaki. The menu also includes toppings you can add to your monjayaki so we added corn. It was our first time trying a monjayaki and the entire experience was very cool. They bring the ingredients to your table and chop it up while cooking it on the grill in front of you. Then when they’re done they top it with dried seaweed and scallions. You use a tiny little shovel to eat bits of it. The batter is very watery so when they finish cooking it, it has more of a gloopy consistency. As you eat and it cooks on the grill it will become more burnt with a more gummy consistency. Hard to describe because I’ve never tasted anything like it. Still quite delicious and super fun! Just be careful if you are allergic to seafood, I noticed the monjayaki batter has dried shrimp in it. Service is great, our server/chef Miu was really kind even though we only spoke English. They take credit card.

Be warned: many of these reviews may not be organic or genuine reviews. The person who cashed us out (Kosuke) refused to give us our change until we left a review of this restaurant. I said I would leave it later and he refused it as an answer so my husband was in a good mood after his meal and just left a 5-star so we can get our change and leave. He was watching us the entire time, and ask that we include his name. I’m sure many customers feel pressured to leave a 5-star review under these circumstances. We've never experienced this at any other restaurant before—it must be pressure from the owners to incentivize their employees that way. For owners: it’s weird to ask for reviews but even if so, don’t make it mandatory on the spot and allow customers to leave if they don’t want to. We were initially drawn to this restaurant because of the long queue of mostly locals outside and the high ratings. Now, about the food: I'm glad we got to try **Monjayaki**—it was something totally unique and our first time having it. We’ve had plenty of okonomiyaki before, but not this version. They cook everything individually on your table, which was a fun and unique experience. However, because the monjayaki doesn’t solidify and stays gooey and mushy, I don’t think it appeals to many Western palates. Personally, I preferred okonomiyaki with noodles, which you can also order here. Keep in mind that there’s a 2-hour seating limit, which can feel tight for a table of four if everyone orders monjayaki, as it must be cooked one at a time. You have to finish one before starting the next, and sometimes the staff is busy, causing delays. To save time, I recommend ordering some orders that can be prepared in the kitchen, like the okonomiyaki, so it comes out quicker.

Great place to learn how to do monjayaki. We were given a little private room which was fine but the rest of the shop is lively. As newbies we let out waiter do the cooking, or at least get it started. Cod roe with cheese, sounds weird but it works! Monjayaki (unlike okonomiyaki) isn’t really a pancake, more a process. You let it sit in the grill and scrape away bits (with a mini spatula) as they get a little crusty. Very tasty. Nice group dining concept (would fly in the States except that let’s face it, the uncooked splash looks like puke). Okonomiyaki was fine but pre-cooked, so I would stick with monja. Also had yakisoba, but that felt like a bit of an afterthought. We went mid-afternoon Saturday, half-hour wait. Service super friendly, one waitress spoke pretty good English. They spray you as you leave hahaha.

One of the best food I have had in sensoji area! There are always a queue. You need to regsiter your name on the form in front of the restaurant, and they will call your name when it is your turn. We have ordered 明太子文字烧(monjya), and have amazed by the rich flavor and textures. So delicious! The main ingredient is cabbage, they are using it a lot. And a guy is preparing the cabbage in front of us. The waitress cooked the monjya in front of us, which is also an amazing experience. Usually cheese is recommend as the topping, we thought it may be too heavy, then the waitress recommended the shiso, which is a kind of grass with special flavor. We enjoyed it a lot. Please also try the seaweed flakes, which is placed on the table. It will add more flavors to the monjya. The okonomi yaki is also delicious.

This is probably the best monja in town. I have eaten at several monja shops on Nishinaka Dori (aka monja street) and I still come back to this one. This is my second time to Tokyo and it is still great. Food - Get the classic cod roe with mochi. They have a bigger serving of roe than any other monja shop I have been to. Savory, but light. Plenty of veggies. The dashi is full of flavor. Also highly recommend the grilled whole squid in liver, and the garlic fried rice. Recommend one monja per person. Service - very attentive staff. They cook it all for you if you want. They are pros. Atmosphere - typical Tokyo spot. Crowded, sometimes elbow to elbow but that's all part of the charm

美味しかったけど、店員さんが全然やる気がなさすぎる‼️ We are first time customer, so the female staff explain us about “something” with the menu, I said something, because even my japanese friends didn’t hear or understand what she said. And the staff was kinda insist asking us to make the yakisoba ourselves!!! Of course we can make it, but we are eating at a restaurant and we want to eat your taste! What’s the point of asking us to fry the noodle ourselves when it is supposed to be serviced! We asked for 2 glasses of water to 3 waiters! And we pretend to be angry so that we could get the water nearly the end of our meals!!! We went there because of Google review, but I am speechless.
