We recently checked out Ah Yen, a famous old-school eatery in Kota Kinabalu’s iMago mall. This place has a pretty cool story – they started way back in 1940 in a tiny town called Sandakan! It’s amazing how they’ve grown from a wet market stall to having branches all over Malaysia and Singapore. The star of the show is definitely their Fried Pork ‘springy’ noodle. The noodles were cooked just right – chewy and full of flavor. And the pork? Oh, it was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It was a perfect match with the noodles! We also tried their Tiger Prawn Laksa. It was spicy and packed with a rich coconut flavor. The prawns were fresh and juicy. To finish off our meal, we ordered the Cincau Susu (a sweet grass jelly drink) and Fried Dumplings. Both were refreshing and tasty. We also couldn’t resist trying their Hakka Fried Pork. It was a classic dish that didn’t disappoint. Crispy and flavorful, it was a great addition to our meal. The staff at Ah Yen were super friendly and helpful. They made us feel really welcome. The place has a nice vibe, although it can get pretty crowded during peak hours. But trust us, it’s totally worth the wait! If you’re ever in Kota Kinabalu, make sure to give them a try!

So good I came here twice. 2nd time I had to come back in the evening as the lunch queue was too big and there were no spare tables. My first visit was around 8pm and it was still pretty busy. Located on floor 3 of the mall, you grab a table and when you want to order, approach the till and then pay. The food comes out quickly and the team in the kitchen are constantly pumping out fresh dishes non stop. I got the icebrug lettuce, crispy pork kuey teow and a lemon shui. Total came to 32.30myr. The iceberg lettuce was delicious in a light and sweet soy broth I assume. The crispy pork still remained slightly crispy even as I left pieces right till the very end of my meal. The broth is light but flavourful and the noodles had a little chew in them. Delicious!!! The 2nd time I got the iceberg lettuce again, alongside the signature laksa and the iceberg lettuce. It came to 40.40myr. The laksa I upgraded to Sandakan noodles for an extra 1.50myr or something. It was hearty, filling and not too spicy. I wish they added more of the fried pork! The flavoured coating to the pork still manages to come through the strong laksa broth. Testament to the rich flavour!

Had a delicious lunch at 亚燕 (Ya Yen) in Suria Sabah Mall. We tried the Signature Fried Pork with Sandakan Noodles, Salt & Pepper Fried Chicken Rice, and Fresh Prawn Dumpling Noodles. We also ordered a side serving of the fried pork. The pork wasn’t very crispy, but it was flavourful and tender. The chicken was crispy but slightly bland. The noodles were springy (especially the Sandakan noodles) and well done, and the dumplings were fresh and juicy. The Teh C Ping was smooth, aromatic, and not too sweet. Only downside was the cramped seating; the tables were packed quite closely together, making it a bit challenging to move in and out comfortably. Overall, a satisfying and affordable meal in a convenient location. Worth a visit if you're in the area!

Food quantity & quality does not equal the price. Services so slow, inefficient even on non-peak time. We ordered 2 Fried Pork Noodles (dry) only. About 5 - 6 tables occupied (out of 20 or so tables) when we placed our orders and some already done eating. Staff also misread our order - we ordered two but only deliver one to our table. No they werent under-staffed. There were about 10 staff by the time we were there. The pork slices quantity seemed lesser compared to the last time we went here (March 2024). X I frequented this place once or twice a month since their opening. My fave dish is the Fried Pork with Kuey Teow noodle (dry). Today I went here and everything went downhill - this would be the last time I dine here.

They are famous for their fried pork slice with dry (kon lou) flat noodles (kuew teow). However this time i decided to try their laksa, which are so so only for the taste. However the fried chicken and salt & pepper tofu is quiet tasty. Do give them a try. The place can get busy sometimes and it become very messy in getting tables. The establishment should really uses a numbering system during busy times for the table in order to stop those who may just jump queue and take a table from those that has been waiting longer. Their staff are quiet friendly.

It was midday I came here with my daughter and her family. They wanted to go shopping so I tagged along 🤣. And it was lunch time, so we dined in this restaurant. Foods served here is delicious. I've dined in here three times with my family this year 😊. But this time, I didn't eat because I was still full. I ate Wantan Ho for morning breakfast at Menggatal Plaza. And, I just ordered honeydew juice. The restaurant is clean. Staffs are polite and friendly. Keep it up guys 😉.
