I'd rate a 5* on atmosphere & service. Firstly, yeah you have to come early to try the prawn noodles but the system they have in getting your queue number is superb. She(operator) wrote down your order and table number to prevent confusion. Good, keep it up.
While waiting at approximately 8.07am, it was sold out(from her shout across). Our order came 10mins later on. Cause of the queue if I'm not mistaken were those take aways where it can take up 20/30 packs/order. Therefore, wait patiently if you want a taste of this popular Hokkien mee.
Coming to the taste, just like some of the reviews here, I do agree that it is not something to shout about. I would rate this stall my bottom 5 because I think the broth taste is "strange" (just my opinion & have to be careful with my words bcos I don't get the natural broth sweetness). The first scoop of broth to the palate is always the genuine indicator of taste & flavours.
Imagine how you differentiate red wine. Some are just cheap red with sweeteners and some are full bodied Shiraz/Merlot. In Hokkien we say " Kopi "O" kao. If you get a good bottle of cabernet, it has balance & easy on the throat.
Michelin Gourmet Bib has class. They know what they are doing.
If you are looking for a bottle of Pinot Noir of Hokkien mee aka prawn noodles, go to KS One Cafe, push cart stall (opposite South Island Building Co Ltd, Google it) further down the road to Chew Jetty. It has very balance broth flavours, not those thick sticky soup type but clear broth. Mix the chilli into the broth and take a sip and you'll get what I meant by a proper bowl of simple Hokkien Mee.
However if you are going for full bodied broth and a good bowl of Hokkien mee, go Swee Kong Coffeeshop opposite Pulau Tikus Police Station. Go early before 8am. You won't go wrong. Next to this Hokkien Mee stall is the current Queen Of Char Kwey Tiao with Michelin Gourmet Bib stall.

Well the prawn soup is really good but the prawn a bit old .The attitude of the prawn stall ladies maybe need to be change. No need to have the attitude like that. When I ordered i tell her which place I sit A 10(I say A ten and saw her write down my order and that time she said need to wait for one hour and I said okay)
After an hour I asked for my order, she said why you say ten ,you need to say A one zero 😒and argue with me why I say ten? (Well why you don’t tell me when I ordered?) She keep saying that why you say ten ,it’s not same. She tells me that you say ten ,it will be A one , and I wasn’t like what? Ten =one zero ? She purposely shoutout very loud to make sure everyone can heard her( Really don’t understand why she will so grumpy)
She keep mumbled that told you guys need to be wait for 40min already, I tell her that ya I know you said need to wait and I say okay already. She keep quiet and don’t give me any response. The uncle inside also keep said you need to say A ten (got any different? I don’t get it)
After a few seconds silence I asked them so will I get my noodles? The ladies don’t want to answer me , the uncle inside said I am doing it for you ( just cannot get why her attitude need to be so bad )
The other stall worker are very good ,and food are good too, if you like to get scolded by the ladies...
Read moreCame here for the famous hokkien mee but the stall owner didn’t wanna sell us even though we got there at 9 something in the morning as he claimed he received orders more than he’d prepare for already. What a disappointment.
It’s hard to find parking here and I had to pay RM5 for the parking nearby even though it’s just a few mins walk. Quite disappointed since I couldn’t try the hokkien mee after all the hurdles.
We tried the curry mee and char kuey teow there instead. Curry mee was flavorful with the curry which’s just the right amount to it. Char kuey teow was a letdown to me as it’s tasteless to me.
The highlight of this place was the bakery stall that sells traditional Chinese bakery. The name of the stall is lau nai nai kochabi. Their crispy pork floss was so good that I just craved for more. It’s very crispy and flavorsome. The stall owner gave us samples to try first before we bought, and kept promoting his products. I instantly liked the cookies hence we bought white almond cookies and almond crispy...
