Very poor overall. Bad ambiance, below average food, pushy service, terribly overpriced.
Getting there: Firstly, you take a walk through a street of tourist traps and celubrious massage ladies. Every place on the street has agressive street marketers trying to push bums into seats, so you're not having a great night by the time Healys own staff jump out to hard sell you into their bar.
Next the ambience: its a dive of drunken chinese, suspiciously made up single ladies, washed out ex-pats and 'lads' who've entirely missed the point of travelling round asia. People are smoking so it's not kid/healthy person friendly. Every wall is displaying sport on a screen - 3 different kinds - and the background noise is the drone of commentator talking about Moto GP or whatever they have on. It feels like a working mens club. Even the furniture is uncomfortable and mis-sized so you can sit properly. Every seat feels like its next to something you don't want to site next to (a register, a speaker, a toilet...).
The food: I went here for the burger. I've done burger hunting in several major cities so know a little about it. This was very dissapointing. There was a huge chunk of meat in the middle, which for those who still eat McDonalds, probably makes Healy's a good burger... For anyone who's eaten a proper burger it's dissapointing. It was reasonably seasoned and not too tough, but that was all. The bun was dry, the sauce (provided seperately for some reason) was poorly suited to a burger and pretty tasteless. The salad was poor (a slice of tomato) and I had to put a side salad in on my own. The sizes were all mismatched so you need to be careful the whole thing doesn't fall apart. There is a HUGE side of fries and a side salad, which is really why I gave them a star...
The staff: Generally I hate Asian service, I don't like being followed round stores or having waiters hovering round me whilst I'm still reading the menu. It shows a total lack of finess. This place was no exception. My beer was watched like a hawk, it was even manually checked before I had finished it so they could offer me another. My plate was cleared away seconds after I'd put down my fork and before I'd finished using the napkin. Let me give you guys a tip - thats a simple way to get most people to leave.
The bill: 75RM for a burger and a glass of beer is very poor value in Malaysia. It's one of the most expensive burgers I've had and is not worth the money. I can get a burger and a beer in the UK for less than than that. I was expecting a pricey tourist trap, but this is double what it should be...
Overall: Maybe they have some secret amazing dish on the menu I didn't try and makes going here worth it. I doubt it. Just avoid it and pick a nice place for dinner far away from...
Read moreHealy Macs is hands-down one of my favorite spots in town. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is buzzing with good vibes and great energy. But what really sets it apart for me is the perfect pint of Guinness – smooth, creamy, and poured with true Irish pride. It’s honestly the best pour I’ve had outside of Ireland itself. Add to that the outdoor area where you can enjoy a cigar in peace – it’s the kind of place that understands how to blend comfort with character. It’s rare to find a pub where you can relax with a fine smoke, a flawless Guinness, and still feel part of the vibrant buzz around you.
And then there's the DJ. Not just background noise – I’m talking about an outstanding, crowd-reading, mood-setting DEEJAY who knows exactly what to play and when to play it. Whether it’s classics, deep house, or party anthems, the music always hits the right note and keeps the night alive.
Healy Macs isn’t just a pub – it’s a complete experience. Great drinks, great smokes, and even better music. If you're looking for that perfect mix of chill and thrill, this is where...
Read moreWe actually went for highly praised The Green Man next door but it was packed so we ended up here and that was a happy coincidence. We loved this place! Food was great! We ordered pizza (it was huge, much bigger and much more delicious than we expected, it was 25 MYR if I remember it right), nasi lemak with chicken (wooow it was so good! So rich and flavorful), and my partner ordered steak and it was great, we do think it was the best steak we tried in SEA including some fancy steakhouses in Bangkok (and definitely cheaper, but I don't remember the exact price). Pint of Guinness costs 25 MYR. Yeah there is ++ to all prices. Service was fast and efficient even though the...
