Located on the edge of the bar row that is Changkat, La Chica offers Mexican-themed decor and food with a distinctively KL vibe. Cash and credit cards accepted. Helpful staff. Indoor and outdoor seating.
Started with chips and salsa. The chips may have been the best-tasting part of the meal. Crispy and perfectly salted. Not house-made but more than workable. The salsa, which the menu did indicate was house made, was not at all impressive. More like tomato sauce without much else. A few green bits that I'll assume used to be cilantro but not enough to provide any real flavor benefits.
I asked for hot sauce and they provided two bottles - one a red hot sauce and the other green. I preferred the green - neither were terribly good but the green had a citrus-nuanced sourness that was at least a taste.
I opted for a beef taco and a chicken al pastor option (which is a linguistic contradiction but whatever). The chicken al pastor was generously loaded with chicken bits but lacking in any real flavor profile. Not spicy, not sour, nothing. I think they used mango rather than pineapple so you didn't even get the tangy sweet of pineapple which is the traditional ingredient in al pastor.
The beef taco was also nice to look at. And while the beef was grilled nicely, once again the overall effect was just bland. Not bad, but no real flavor at all.
They offer two-for-one cocktails most of the time. The La Paloma I tried had zero taste whatsoever. They wouldn't allow me to just pay for one drink instead of the two-fer but they did allow me to opt for a Mexican Mule as my second drink. That had a little more flavor, thanks in large part to the ginger ale.
Competing with the other bars on Changkat, La Chica unfortunately pumped a non-stop barrage of thumping dance club music the entire time. Although sitting outside muted that somewhat, it was still excessive.
This was not bad food it simply was not flavorful. They obviously take their time to present it nicely. Their digital signage seemed to be touting a top-tier KL bartender, but the net results of both food and drink were lackluster. I wouldn't tell someone not to eat here, but I wouldn't suggest that they...
Read moreI am highly recommend this place! Me and my partner, we went to the restaurant for dinner. I’ll break it down for you one by one.
Ambient Music choices are vibing with me so well. Mix of from 70’s to the 2010s’ , it is a good atmosphere if you’re going there alone, to enjoy the food and the music.
Foods Chicken Chimichanga (MYR 36) Absolute 5/5 rating for me personally for me. Taste and portion wise, it’s worth the price! The portion is big! For one person, it will soothe your empty stomach completely! Me and my partner shared the meal, and we felt our stomach almost full, just by that meal! 🙊
Nachos Supreme (RM58) Trust me, the portion, IT IS SUITABLE FOR 3-4 PAX! Me and my partner were struggling to finish it off 🤣 Taste wise, it is good! They are very generous with the condiments that is in the nachos. If you’re food gluttonous person, this is already good enough as a main meal 🙊
Cocktails ( 2 for MYR 60 ) 4 choices of cocktails are available. Me and my partner chose Mojito and Tequila Sunrise. The taste of the alcohol isn’t very strong for the Mojito. However, for the Tequila Sunrise, it hits the spot perfectly! Not too strong, not too mild. I loved it!
We also got 2 Welcome Shooters (Margarita Slush mix with Vodka, if I get the type of liquor correctly) as our welcome and complimentary drink.
Overall, all are good for foods and drinks! Will definitely go there again for meals 🫶
Location Situated in Changkat Bukit Bintang, it is very nearby to so many hotels around. It is just a short walking distance (10 mins) from the Shinjuku Bukit Bintang traffic light. As for me, my hotel that I stayed, just 3-4 mins walking to the restaurant. Hence, it is very convenient.
There you go!
I’ll definitely will go to the...
Read moreMexican food in Malaysia: who knew! But it was a nice surprise and treat at La Chica, located on a very hip, very cool street, with lots of competition. Our quesadilla was pretty good, filled with beef brisket and mushrooms, the chips were the thin ones (we prefer thick ones...), but that, along with the guac, came AFTER we almost finished eating. Chips & dips are appetizers, but not sure if they knew that. Meanwhile, our waiter, Nagendra (he had to spell it for me), was top notch, with capable assistance from his fellow servers. We enjoyed a nostalgic margarita (just like old times in Mexico!), but it was not the same. Even with the weak points we would return. 11.03.24, after a terse conversation with the manager about what the menu says compared to what is on our plate, overall we enjoyed our meal. My burrito was decent size, priced a little on the high end, but my wife was disappointed that she did not get a decent amount of guacamole or sour cream on her quesadilla. That was part of the conversation with Management... But their service is still good and we like...
