Have you ever had an experience where you go for a meal at a place and you are immediately swamped with a feeling of content? This is what happened when my friends and I went to Relish the Moment cafe.
Firstly the ambience of the cafe was very inviting with the occasional barks of the resident Pomeranians and also with the inquisitive glances of the cats, you will feel a kindred spirit in the pets where you would want to bring your pets to enjoy the atmosphere as well.
The cafe is before the Melaka river so you can see the river in its glory when you come through the rear entrance and it serves as an ideal photoshoot session for those selfies and wefies fashionista experts!
The food, oh the food.... let me tell you, you can definitely feel the love and care taken in the preparation of each dishes. The pumpkin soup was silky and smooth with just the right amount of pumpkin sweetness. The pizza and pasta were lovely creatures in their own rights. Oh the creme de la creme had to be the smoked duck, it had the right amount of smokiness, savoriness coupled with the right balance of sweetness for a decadent balance of flavour which we would not manage to take a picture of before we devoured it!
It is a lovely place to chill with your friends (furry or non furry) nestled in the busy Melaka streets that provides a small haven of quiet and calmness (with a bit of barking, meowing conversation mixed in it). Do check it out for...
Read moreThe place was empty at 12. It was very quiet, no music...just the sound of a refrigerator motor (very loud).. We walked in and sat. They asked us to scan the QRC for a digital menu, although later they brought us a normal menu. They have a paper and pencil where you write down your own order. It seems like they want you to do it yourself.
My wife wanted the toast with and egg on top. We asked if we could have the egg scrambled instead of sunny-side up, because my wife is pregnant and is wary of eggs not thoroughly cooked eggs. They asked the cook, who said “no”. I guess scrambling an egg takes too much work. Strange, because the card you order on has a column for “remark” but you can’t make any changes? So instead she ordered basil rice. We were the only ones there but it still took 20 minutes to get our food. When my wife’s rice came out, it had a sunny-side egg on top, after we had already explained we didn’t want that kind of egg. (The egg was not listed in the description of the dish)
Overall the food was decent and the staff was not unkind, but it was off-putting that they don’t seek to make the customer feel warm and welcome. And very disappointing that they could not, for a pregnant woman, scramble an egg.
I believe many of the very positive reviews are from under previous ownership, as there was a sign outside saying “No Pets” and a lot of the high reviews...

The hostel as a whole needs a little TLC, we were greeted nicely, however considering it's a cafe that supposedly opens at 11:30am, we checked out at 12 on our own with the lights still off and no sign of anyone there. We went for food elsewhere (cafe in hostel was closed) then walked past at 1pm with the shutters still locked. We are all for a sleep in, however when you have guests, you should be hosting as if you had a full house. From the previous reviews, they seem to be under new management. Hence the drastic change from Dec 2022 to January. Don't be fooled, it's good value for money but it really is the most basic, non social hostel to stay in. l'd recommend updating every source of online media you have about the hostel to ensure when people do stay, they are aware of the change of management and times for openings etc. (if this was made clear, my review would have been much much better)
Our private room had tall ceilings, the hostel is VERY quiet. Right on the Riverside so you go on a lovely walk, near the river boat too. Air Con was great and somewhat clean for...
