Genki Sushi • Sunway Pyramid — Restaurant in Subang Jaya

I had a troubling experience at Genki Sushi Sunway Pyramid that I feel needs to be shared. During lunch, I was asked by the staff to connect to their WiFi as the QR code ordering wasn’t loading properly with my mobile data. It still didn't load, hence I asked to take my order manually, then placed my phone (a secondary device) aside during the meal, and only realized around 4pm—hours later—that I had left it behind.

I went back to Genki Sushi and asked the staff if a phone had been found. He said no, and asked me to check the seat area myself. I found his responses and body language unsettling— he avoided eye contact, and when I asked to check with his other colleagues if anyone has seen it or kept it, he quickly disappeared into the back before returning to say nothing had been found.

Still suspicious but without evidence, I used my main phone to try detecting it via Bluetooth, but had no luck. I left, still suspicious and frustrated, but with no hard proof, I Googled and found that I can use the “Find My Device” feature. I used it and the saw that my phone is nearby Salad Atelier in the map (Salad Atelier is just opposite Genki Sushi, the map doesn't show all retails name in the map), and is still connected to Genki Sushi’s WiFi. This strongly suggested the phone was still within or very near the restaurant. I quickly returned and told the staff that i see that my phone is still here. Suddenly, the staff said he would “call a colleague” to check and after a short delay, told me the phone had been “kept” by the colleague who wasn’t there earlier. When the colleague returned, he too avoided eye contact as he handed me the phone.

While I’m relieved to have recovered it, the sequence of events left me with a strong impression that the phone was not immediately intended to be returned until I showed I was tracking it.

I’m not here to accuse anyone directly, as I have no proof—but the entire encounter made me uncomfortable and raised serious concerns about how lost property is handled. I hope Genki Sushi reviews their internal protocols and ensures that customer trust...

Nice place to bring primary school aged kids. They have a delivery bullet train over a conveyer "track" that serves sushi and non-main meal dishes. Entertaining and novel concept.

For food, the sushi rice is fresh - it does not have that hardness that makes it difficult to chew and swallow. The ingredients are fresh and prepared in the kitchen, and they do not circulate around a conveyer belt.

Another thing I like is the way the wasabi is served, which are in sealed in packets ala store-bought. Commercially processed, yes (as in, not truly grinded from the plant). But by not serving it in containers in chunks, hygiene is maintained.

As for price: no drinks, one adult set meal, two sushi platter, chawanmushi, damage = RM98 inclusive of tax and fees. Okay for a good Japanese meal without going to a posh Japanese restaurant. This place is honest, not pretentious, attentive staff, proven age-old brand, serviceable. I would return for...

the wasabi is in packing, not fresh, after opened and it just liked the jelly type... when I saw the wasabi also feel like scary.

the green tea give the powder in the cup, and need to one cup one cup self refill by pressing long time for one cup to be filled up.

We ordered 2x Unagi set, but the set portion is very very less, and it has cost about Rm39.xx per set. as well as other rice set that, Wagyu set.

the sushi is considered in good portion, but the topping and rice are not in place, and the rice and the topping will separate from each other... but rice is very small, topping is bigger....

and all of us after taken the meal still need to find another restaurant to eat... (3 adults and 3 kids), because the meal portion all are smaller and also cost us Rm175++.
