Rootz — Restaurant in Valletta

I'm really happy to have had the wonderful experience to dine in this amazing little restaurant. It feels like home and the staff is like a big kind family. It was one of the best gastronomic experiences I have ever had.

Everything is prepared with love, and that is easy to tell. The owner and chef, Matteo, is a lovely and friendly person and he makes sure all his dishes come from his heart and experience. The Italian roots are indeed very much alive and the food is delicious.

The restaurant environment is beautiful and cozy, a lively and romantic experience. With lovely details such as Turkish lamps and hand made pieces. They always have a musician around to make the experience even better. We were lucky enough to be there while a great pianist was playing. Amazing space and vibe and beautifully played music.

Do not expect a fast experience, this is not a fast food restaurant. Food here is definitely prepared with care, which takes it's time. It's not too slow either, so don't worry. Just the perfect timing to sit, relax and enjoy a wonderful dinner.

It is veggie friendly too and I had the best bruschetta in my life, not even exaggerating!

We seated at 19:25 and we asked for a bottle of white wine,one beer,a bottle of water and some bruschette in order to have something to eat while enjoying our drinks. By 20:15 still no signs of the bruschette,so we asked the waitress what was going on,because people who seated after us was already enjoying their food, and she answered that the bruschette would be ready within 10 minutes. At 20:25 another waitress showed up and said that our bruschette would be ready in another 10 minutes!!! So at 20:40 with no sign of the bruschette,we asked for the bill,already cancelling the order for the bruschette! Of course at 20:45 the bill was still not presented at our table so we went to the cashier to ask it directly,they didn't even bother to remove the water,which was the least expensive of the drinks, from the bill in order to apologize for the delay! So we paid our bill but for sure we will steer away of this place and definitely would not recommend it to anyone! My partner and I visited for a some drinks on 28/11/24 23:00-00:00. TLDR: we were told to finish our drinks quickly so they could close the bar/restaurant early. On arrival, the vibe was perfect - cosy and romantic. We ordered our drinks, and sat outside enjoying them. Our interaction with the staff was totally unremarkable at this point. They did not mention anything about wanting to close soon. Half way through our drinks, the only other customers on the table beside us left. Shortly afterwards the staff started clearing the chairs and tables around us. We tried to continue enjoying our drinks, but then we were interrupted by one of the staff. She told us they wanted to close, so we should either finish our drinks quickly or pour them into takeaway cups and leave. This totally spoiled our experience and meant we did not return here for tapas, as originally planned.
