La Buenavida — Restaurant in Mexico City

Ok I really tried to be patient here. The first time I got here about 2 years ago I had an incredible experience and one of the best Console de Pollo.

As I returned here later, every time they would spoil my experience with something new. Either they play very loud music, either they make me wait for ages while the place is empty, either the waiter would mixed up something… but most irritating experience is with my soup that I like to order here. One time I ordered a soup to go, only to find out that they give me a different type. Another time I asked to make my soups extra hot and after waiting for ages I received a barely warm soup. And at last, it was really my last time coming here. They made my to-go soup soooo salty that I couldn’t eat it and had to mix it lots of water.

I found this place because of the recommendation of Lonely Planet, which turned out to be a big disappointment. We ordered two items: menu del día and Chile relleno. The dish of the day was chilaquiles-an insult to the Mexican cuisine. Don’t get me started with commenting on the flan coming as the desert (not flan at all, but a hard piece of cake, which seemed to have been standing outside in the heat for days). The pepper in Chile relleno was old and hard, with beans on the side which were hard to chew. I would give zero star if it’s possible. However, this one star also comes from the fact that because of the awful food that we had in this one, we started to look around and discovered a Vegan Taqueria right outside, called Gracias Madre. They had amazing tacos!...

Very delicious modern Mexican dishes! Their tacos are less “traditional” and are unique combinations of their own. We had their queso fundido simple (always a favorite for me, theirs was really good!) - and a few tacos. The “Mil Amores” with the potato patty was super delicious and unique! If you’re looking for traditional Mexican fare, this is not that. However, their versatile and unique menu has the same freshness and authenticity that traditional Mexican dishes do.
