Review: A Very Disappointing Experience at the Marwadi Restaurant in Pokhra
I visited the Marwadi Restaurant in Pokhra yesterday with high expectations, but the experience turned out to be extremely disappointing — both in terms of food quality and service.
Food Quality:
I started with the Mushroom Soup, which was served in milk — bland, poorly balanced, and completely unappetizing. It felt more like a poorly made sweet dish than a soup.
The Mushroom Dosa was another letdown — absolutely tasteless, with no flavor in either the stuffing or the chutneys. It felt like eating plain dosa with nothing inside.
The Marwari Thali, which is supposed to be the highlight of the restaurant, was a disaster. Every item on the thali lacked flavor — dull sabzis, undercooked dal, and watery kadhi. Nothing stood out.
The Special Gulab Jamun, which was supposed to be the dessert highlight, was half-cooked and doughy from the inside. It clearly hadn’t been fried or soaked properly.
Pricing: The restaurant is overpriced for the quality they offer. When you're paying a premium, the least you expect is a good taste and decent service — both were missing here.
Service & Staff Behavior: What made the experience worse was the unprofessional behavior of the staff and the manager. They were not just inattentive but also rude when we gave feedback about the food. Instead of acknowledging the complaint, they brushed it off arrogantly, which shows a lack of basic hospitality.
Conclusion: Overall, I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic taste or good service. There are far better options in Pokhra that respect your time, money,...
Read more👎 By the name “Marwadi Restaurant” we (a group of 20+ pax) selected this restaurant with high hopes of getting authentic marwadi cuisine like मारवाड़ी थाली and other tasty items so some ordered ala carte items, some Marwadi thali and some (3 pax to be precise) wanted to order Gujarati Thali but they said we won’t take order for less than 4 thali so under pressure we ordered 4 Gujarati Thali.
It took so long to serve our orders, therefore compellingly I am writing here that service from kitchen is very very late & poor although restaurant floor staff was very efficient and friendly. What we got in our Thalis was nowhere a Marwadi or Gujarati cuisine, everything was like coming from a Punjabi dhaba, that too with not a real Punjabi taste. When asked to add some Deshi Ghee on rice then to our surprise waitress said ghee finished (घी खतम हो गया) So the conclusion is that if someone is willing to have taste of Marwadi Thali मारवाड़ी खाना or Gujarati Thali गुजराती खाना then do not even think of visiting this place. The name “Marwadi Restaurant” will give disappointment of very high peak even higher than “Fishtail...

I wish I had zero star option. Slowest and least professional staff 👎👎👎.
They served worst tasting tomato soup 🥴🥴after 30 minutes without bread croutons. When we asked for those, they served 7 pieces after 8 mins. We were 3. I don’t know what kind of calculations they had in their mind. After serving second round they asked sarcastically if we want more👎.
We had ordered main course. They served it without salad. When we asked for extra lemon, they forgot and served after 5 min after second ask.
Another couple was having dinner and a guy mistakenly broke one of the 3 pieces in a salt serving cutlery. And restaurant charged extra 700 Rupees( not sure Indian or Nepali)
Will not recommend at all.
