I've gone to this place a fair amount of times for the past couple years because they have nice confectioneries for your coffee or tea and (up till now) decently priced sandwiches for the center but when I went today not only had their prices gotten unreasonably high but they tried to rip us off!
A plain sandwich (for takeout) now apparently costs between 10-11.5 euros (our bill being somewhere between 21.5 to 22, they have different prices in different spots so it's all muddled) and the woman at the cashier charged us 24 euros somehow. If it was some new worker I'd understand but this woman has been there as long as I've visited (most likely management or runs the place) and I just heard from some residents in the area that she specifically has been persistently doing this to many people. Shameful behavior.
Their products are all or mostly locally sourced and they are very popular so I am flabbergasted as to their reasons for upping their prices to this extent. I am going to at least hope with such prices they pay the nice young girls they have as runners well, but I would bet that someone who repeatedly rips people off to their face is not likely to treat their workers any better. Typical cynical exploitation. Shame because their confectioneries are nice.
Also spacewise the store has that typical old-school amsterdam crampedness/claustrophobia vibe so if you are bothered by that I would not recommend sitting inside.
Edit: if the owners think my words are excessive and cruel about their long time employee, let me be very clear: unless this person has some obscure memory problems, this is a pattern of behavior and personally this is the primary reason I wrote this and what I primarily find troubling. Maybe make sure your employees are being fairly compensated and then they won't give...
Read moreI visited this place with a couple of family members, and our experience was far from satisfactory. Since the restaurant was quite full, a waitress (skinny with long brown hair and decent English skills. IYKYK.) asked us to wait outside for about 10 minutes due to limited space inside. It was raining, but we understood and went outside.
However, almost 20 minutes later, I noticed her seating other people who had arrived after us and didn't have reservations. When I approached her to ask when it would be our turn, she didn't even remember telling us to wait outside, which was baffling. I pointed out that she had seated others who came after us without reservations, but she just shrugged and didn't apologize for her mistake. She was also extremely rude. It took talking to another staff member and complaining to her to finally get seated.
Once we were seated and ordered, things didn't improve. Three of us are vegetarian, and our orders were all wrong. Fortunately, one of the staff members apologized and corrected our orders, which we appreciated.
The ambiance and food were okay, but the service was terrible. This place is not worth it, and they should seriously reconsider their staffing, especially the rude and unprofessional waitress who caused so much...
Read moreWe didn't end up eating there. The owner was s bit rude. We really wanted to try this place but had forgotten the name and got excited when randomly coming across it. Unfortunately we already had gotten some drinks (ice tea) from a different place and to not be rude we sat outside at the bench.
I was sitting on the bench whilst my partner was inside ordering for us, when the owner sent the waitress to kick us out because he 'didn't want people sitting on his bench with drinks from other places'. I apologized and explained my partner was inside ordering and checked if it was okay still as i was outside. She later came back to say we would have to leave and take our order to go as the owner was not happy. We therefore asked to cancel our order instead.
I think its fair enough for the owner to feel this way however its very unprofessional to speak like that in front of the customers. My partner was ordering and overheard the owner.
I do have to say the waitress was super nice to us and I hope the boss treats the employees well cause they all seemed to be...
