Kapitein Zeppos — Restaurant in Amsterdam

I was contemplating if I should write this review or not. But here we go. I have loved Kapitein Zeppos since the first day I went. I tell all my friends about it, and go there every chance I get. I love the place, food, drinks, and have always been treated nicely by staff. But yesterday around 7pm, we walked in into a very empty Zeppos. I kindly said that I wanted to have drinks with my friends to celebrate my birthday and I wasn’t sure how many we would be, since in that moment we were only 4 and maybe 4 more would join. Important to point out that this has never been a problem but I do understand that because of reservations it can be tricky. Maybe I should have called beforehand or something. The problem is that this same girl that welcomed us did not even flinch when she turned us away. She wasn’t kind, didn’t explain properly and honestly was not even interested in finding a solution but simply told us it would be “too much to handle”. When my boyfriend tried to offer a solution to maybe separate the group, she, in a very not kind way said no and had no interest in helping or being understanding. I have worked in horeca for a very long time in Amsterdam so I do understand the stress these situations can create. But she was rude, not interested and her attitude and the way she spoke to us was really disappointing since we have always been fans of Zeppos, and never once felt treated badly like this by any other staff members. It’s very sad that I had to walk away with a bad experience from a place that I love so much and visit often. Gladly the night turned better, when a restaurant/bar nearby gladly made a spot for us and prepared a table for us even though they told us they weren’t expecting a big group and they were busy. I booked in this restaurant for my father birthday with my brother. The place is really nice ; both the inside and the outside were magnificent. But, when it comes to the food/drinks, there is unfortunately a lot to say. To begin with, I ordered the « Fondue » in «  een grote brood » and received a little loaf of bread full with cheese. Then, it was written « served with a salad » in the menu ; The salad was in fact carrot and pepper sticks randomly disposed on a plate with no sauce or vinaigrette. All that for 22€, it seemed not normal to me. Then, my dad ordered the « fish of the day » with on the menu « price of the day ». We had no explanation about the sauce nor the sides and, when we asked, the waitress didn’t know herself. He still ordered the plate and received the fish with a tablespoon of sauce and 2 tiny asparagus. The price, 26.50€. However, I have to mention that my brother took the « beef stew » and found it amazing. I tasted it myself and it was really nice. Now, regarding the drinks, we asked a waiter his wine suggestions, took them and it tasted really cheap (yet, we are not picky at all). Finally, the service was unsympathetic.
