1851 Social Bar and Lounge — Restaurant in Christchurch

Arriving for a 1.30pm booking this bar was Entirely unable to cater for a party of 50 thirsty and hungry folk. 50mins for the first drink(not what we ordered and tasted/looked like the dredges of leftovers of other orders) 2 bar staff. Totally ill equipt. An embarrassement. The initial 'grazing platter' (arrived about 2.15pm was utterly inadequate for that many people to even get a taste of food. (all lined up like cattle to get a morsel around a tiny corner table, resulting in a large, unsofisticated queue who had to limit their graze to tiny portions in hope of spreading such a meager platter so thin) As was the subsequent *hot food. Thankfully as an after thought staff produced 2 smaller platters of cheap soft and blue cheese, boring crackers and 6 slices of toasted ciabatta between now 30 still hungry folk. The experience was something I will put down as one of the most totally underwhelming cocktail bar experiences of my life. I would have left when I saw the incompetence and queue at the bar, but I was obliged to stay sober and starve as it was a compulsory work function. Thank you to my generous bosses who tried to treat their staff to a lovely celebration.. It certainly wasn't their fault that it was so rubbish. I shall never return. Ps. The vegetarians of our party were unable to eat anything as the dietary requirements were completely disregarded. I imagine they have died of starvation...

Signage on tpath encourages you in with promise of variety of beverages/champagne and suggestion to ask for recommendations at the bar. Actual service required waiting for the bar staff to bother to meander over, repeated attempts to order a specific wine variety off the menu met with blank stares and questions of if it's a Chardonay.. After 4 attempts get them to realise it does exist. No proactive service, no chat/banter interest show, had to stand at the bar waiting for someone to turn up to order another wine. It's a hotel bar. Party of 4 came in hungry and wanting a steak meal. 3/4 people ordered the same thing. 2/3 people got their meal within 5 minutes of each other. 4th and final steak came out 20 minutes after the first meal was delivered. We had to ask after said meal, waitress attitude was like “I know” and we got asked if we would like a glass of wine for free due to the error when we were not drinking.
