UPDATE: Instead of apologizing for my unfortunate experience, the owner called me and with a threatening tone, demanded that I take down my review or she would call Google and have it taken down. Instead of asking me what happened and failing to address the issue, she continued where her staff left off and had a similar tone to my experience at the restaurant. This further reinforces that the restaurant does not focus on improving their customer service. I thought I was allowed to express my opinion but it seems with this restaurant it is not the case.
I totally agree with the comments made by Bansal Corp a week back. The behavior of the owner exactly mimics the name of the restaurant “mumbaiwala” Which basically depicts street person with no customer centricity. Very arrogant and rude . No manners on how to deal with customers. The owner has Absolutely no idea about being customer focus This person Needs to stay in Mumbai rather than in a place like Christchurch I had very good impression about people in NZ during my Trip so far but this owner really puts a black spot on my total impression Having said that my 99% experience in NZ was just fantastic. I am so so so glad that we left the restaurant without eating their and then were suggested one of the best Indian restaurants in Christchurch called Coriander. Thanks for the owners arrogance and his Mumbai tone, I will definitely not be recommending mumbaiwala to anybody in USA and being in field of public relations can at-least help over few thousand people to stay away from this restaurant and arrogant / rude behavior of the owner. My rating is -5 as I believe that if you cannot be good to your customers you should not be in the business of serving people If anybody needs any more information Pl ping me and I...
Read moreGreat service, fantastic food, nice decor.
Mains are all around the 23-25 dollar mark so I do not understand all the reviews saying it is overpriced. You can see the serving sizes for yourself in the attached photos . Don't come here for cheap stereotypical indian food, come here if you want to pay a bit more to get something much nicer.
For your money you get delicious curries and dishes that are a cut above standard Indian fare. As an Australian I can say that this is the best indian resturant I have visited. If we had more time in Christchurch I would return to try other parts of the menu.
The seafood curry we ordered was nice and light but delicious. The garlic naan was clearly made on premises (crispy and hot) and came with plenty of garlic.
The grilled chicken was way too hot for me, but the waiter had warned us so I had that coming. For people like my girlfriend who enjoy hot food it would be very tasty.
The squid entree portion size was generous but perhaps the batter was a little thick. The larger pieces had great flavour when dipped in the sauce.
Two side/entree dishes and one main was enough for the two of us, and with drinks and naan our bill only came to $90.
The wait staff was friendly and accommodating, they brought me yoghurt when I was clearly struggling with the hot chicken and knew the menu well.
The decor is well done and complements the vibe of the restaurant.
Overall a great experience - It is clear that the number 1 indian resturant spot on Christchurch was well deserved. While I cannot compare it to Corrianders (the other big name Christchurch indian) as I haven't tried that yet I can safely say that if you visit you will not be...
Read moreF.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C!! this is probably the best Indian restaurant in NZ. It is such a shame we do not have them in Auckland! They nailed the place in every little thing! The staff is so friendly and open to explain every dish and difference between that and this. Their uniform is pretty cool too! When I first entered the restaurant there was this amazing smokey smell, I dont know what it was but it was so inviting and made me soo hungry! The design of the restaurant is very different from any other indian restaurants. This one looks more funky. It's like a fusion of Mexican and Indian restaurant and maybe a bit of a pub feel to it. Once we were all settled at our table, I went to the bathroom to wash my hands. OMG! The bathroom! The design looks like you are in a train bathroom, there are photo wallpaper around and old looking mirror with metal sink but that wasn't what amused me the most! They had the sound of a moving train in the cubical. It was so awesome that I made my colleague go and check it out. He was pretty impressed as well! And now finally the FOOD!! 10 OUT OF 10! I dont know if the food taste like the Indian street or not, since I've never tried it before but what I've tasted is so different from food court Indian food or any other Indian restaurants out there. It has BBQ is feel and taste to it. The food is served like tapas so it's really good for sharing. My favourite was Vindaloo wings, if you are there you must try it! Unfortunately, I forgot to take the pictures of the food but I'll be back tonight to try the rest of the menu 😂 will take the...
