I roll into Newmarket by train every two weeks. Its primarily to get a hair-cut and beard-trim. But my first port-of-call is always the little eye-catching Coffee Station. Its positioned beautifully to stop the traveller right by the walkway that takes him or her to Remuera Road. And it is there, in that modest little corner where the Coffee Station beckons, that I halt abruptly, stopped in my tracks by the allure of appealing food and the welcoming smiles of Windy.
I cannot comment on the nature of their coffee because I gave up drinking that beverage in 1997. But I do testify that the food Windy serves up for me, is outstanding in quality.
Elvis Presley is said to have hired a private jet for his favourite sandwiches and I sometimes wonder if I am really making the long train trip from Weymouth to Newmarket just for those cheese-and-onion sandwiches which excel in exquisite savour. As for the Coffee Station’s cheese scones, the recipe must come from a different world altogether, unknown to us. I don’t think scones of such secret delight and succulence could ever again descend upon this city! I have only mentioned two samples of the wide range of eatables the Coffee Shop offers the hasty traveller. And always served up promptly with the care and sparkle of Windy.
It gives me great pleasure to recommend this little café where the high quality of food and service never varies. I text my order at 5:15 a.m. every fortnight …. the train rolls in a few hours later …. and my day in Newmarket is kicked off to a happy start. On one occasion, the wheels stopped en route: there was a serious problem on the rail-tracks: and a long time passed before the locomotive became mobile again. As it chugged into Newmarket, I nearly sent an alarming text to Windy: “Please! Don’t close the shop! The train’s been delayed! Just entering and me too, hungrier than usual now!” But there was no need to. Windy admitted, “I thought you weren’t going to come in this morning.” But somehow she seemed to know I would, and the shop was still open and my order safe. What a heart-warming testimonial to customer consideration!
Oh, and a vigorous Buongjorno! to you too, Andreas. I haven’t seen you for quite a while but you too have always given me excellent service, and are a good contact to talk about Italy.
Yes, there’s so much to enjoy at the Coffee Station Newmarket. It’s a unique little café where you not only receive delicious refreshments, but build up pleasant little memories which keep drawing you back for more. Call in, all you who never have been there before . . . Call in, and find out...

I was amazed that there was a coffee bar open at 5:30, let alone that the coffee was made hot with the milk at an excellent consistency. Superb.
However, what made the difference for me was Andrea’s friendliness and the small hand-written fact of the day on top of the lid.
There is the option to order online quickly and easily so you can have your special order waiting for you on arrival to the station.
It’s things like that which make you want to come back again and again.

Read moreWhat can I say, the staff and coffee are fantastic. Every morning as I arrive in Newmarket the staff in Coffee Station greet you with a big smile and a 'morning'. The coffee is great and they offer a lot of variety for the size of the store. One of my fav parts of the service is the online ordering system, so I place my order when I get on the train and pick it up as soon as I get off - zero delay as I run into the office. Really cool service!
The staff add a very appreciated personal touch so your day...
