This restaurant and winery is located directly behind a busy tram stop, so I popped in impulsively (despite being on my way to dinner).
Everything about the restaurant is charming, the menu had just been changed that very day, I was sat outside in the shade of a peaceful summer, and the waiter gave me his full attention.
I ordered the risotto as soon as I saw it, and we were both unsure as to what wine to have. It almost became a friendly political debate. I was told the story of Arcus, the perfect wine to accompany the meal due to the fact it was made by sour grapes imported to Poland, which combat the spiciness of the chorizo, completing the dish's flavour profile. The risotto arrived less than five minutes later.
Though a Mediterranean dish would usually have a Mediterranean wine recommended with it, the dish had its Polish influences. Risotto is a popular dish here served in restaurants with either mushrooms, seafood, or local vegetables. The use of pumpkin and chorizo gave a unique flavour reminiscent of paella, and the sprinkle of cheddar cheese instead of parmesan reflected exactly why this is not a Michelin star restaurant, because the flavours of readily available foods are prioritised over the perfect ones.
This was not only my favourite risotto in Krakow after tasting countless others, but it was also a dish which I believe succeeded the flavour of other dishes in Michelin star restaurants. Was it perfect? No. Did it need to be? No.
This is the perfect restaurant for anyone who is hungry in Krakow, due to its low price point and...
Read moreWent there this evening. Cant decide fully about this place but decided to give it 3 stars but please read on . To be fair, first and foremost the food was excellent and if it was based on this it would get 5 stars no question . On the service we received though it was lacking. When we went in there were many tables free... we asked for a table for 2 and asked for the table set for two by the window but was told that was unavailable.. so fair enough no problem ..we sat down at another table which was really fine but as we were looking at the menu to order our food a (single ) guy came in and asked for a table for one and was immediately offered a choice of tables which were all set for two including the one by the window (which we had been refused only 3 minutes earlier. )He chose the window table. ! Later after our main course, we waited for about 1/2 hr to be offered a dessert menu but were basically ignored ... so we eventually asked for the bill which we paid without a tip ( very unusual for us) and left. A shame that a good dining experience was ruined by a simple...
Read moreVery comfortable restaurant with an intimate feel. The staff here are very well trained and possess extensive knowledge of both the dining menu as well as the profound wine collection.
I had the pork tenderloin here and it was magnificent. It had a sweet mustard sauce with whole mustard seeds. The staff paired it nicely with a wine and overall it was delicious.
This would be a perfect place for a date or to catch up with friends. I myself was there for a birthday party and they have more than enough seating to host a party of 20+. Additionally, they have a VIP room and outdoor seating to enjoy the weather among the viney, green garden.
The reason for the 4 instead of 5 stars was the uncomfortable chairs and the massively confusing billing at the end of the meal. They required reservation fees per head and couldn't split the bill at the end. On top of that, they only accept cash which made for a confusing and stressful end to an otherwise...
