what to say about a myth? during tourist season it'is so packed that it will try your patience in the beautiful but diminuted XIX century space on ground floor, where few tables are available. on the first floor, the main salon opens 12:30 for lunch only, but later in the day opens for tea too. the tables with a view are enchanting, and the '40s decor à la ponti is incredibly chic. the food and the cafeteria: let be frank, they couldn't do a proper cappuccino, not even if their lives depended on it. however tea is great option to have with a fruit cake or a rice cake, a fav of mine. very nice sponge cakes with pineapple and whipped cream or chocolate and other flavors. the eclaires and other sweet treats can lack in french finesse and be rather on the heavy side, but it is with the portuguese pastries that perfection is reached: all the egg based little docinhos are mouthwatering, being the croquete my absolute fav. I'm not a fan of the pastel de nata or pastel de belém, but the ones they serve here are rather good. the salty treats like the rissoles and the meat croquete are always a little too mushy in all lisbon; rather a let down when you know the hights this kind of food has reached in...

We visited here during afternoon servicing time on 12/30. Both egg tarts and the table service were terrible. As for egg tarts, its cold and the tastes didnt reach our exceptions ( Although the price is very acceptable, but we were here because the foodie review and everyone recommend the egg tart.) THE MOST IMPORTANT THING WAS THE TERRIBLE TABLE SEVICE. A waiter in 1F was very rush and very rude, my friend and I regard ourself as chill costumers so we never ask for in-hurry services or polite service during our vacation. We just want to know the rule and where the waiting line was. He didn’t listened for our question and just kept saying that “I AM VERY BUSY!!!”, okay we understood, we surely can wait. However while he coming and giving us the menu, he didn’t give us time to think and asking us “OK? OK? OK? OK?” for ordering in hurry. I am sorry but excuse me???we were first time here and we understood the waiter was busy but we felt that WE ARE WAITERS TO SERVE THE WAITER. Very ridiculous and definitely won’t worth to go if the waiter is still there. (I really want to know the waiter’s name so that I can let you know who...

We came here 2 times today, in the afternoon and in the evening. Both times were very busy. In the afternoon we were on the grpud floor and the waitresses were extremely nice and helpful and we had some lemon cake, it was ok, but nothing special, there were no free tables to sit so we just stood and ate. In the evening we went to the first floor, most of the tables were dirty and nobody cleaned them up. We waited over half an hour to be served and everytime we called a waiter they would say it's ok and move on, not coming back to take our order. When they finally took our order we waited another 20 minutes only to be left dissapointed. We ordered an espresso and coffe with milk, they were both terrible and 2 juices as well as a soggy chocolate cake and pastel de nata that was barely edible. The toulet seat and the light was broken, and the bins were spilling out with trash. The tablecloths haven't been changed and were stained with drinks, and the chanderiers were dirty and cobweb was hanging from it. We were sad and dissapointed because it is promoted as the oldest cake shop in Lisbon, from 1829, and we expected...

This cafe was great with good food, prices, and service. It’s one of the oldest pastry shops in Lisbon and was the official confectioner of the royal family. We went upstairs for the table service. You can do self serve or table service. We got the shrimp rissol, chicken quiche, tuna sandwich, and pork sandwich. Ya we did it up. We also got a bunch of desserts including the donut, chocolate moose, chocolate cake, and a spread of the tiny chocolate cookies and chocolates from downstairs. The sandwiches were good, not mind blowing but perfect for the price made with fresh ingredients. The quiche and rissol were delicious, definitely a must try. They were rich, flavourful and moist. The desserts. Oh mama the desserts. Donut was moist with a heavier cream. My wife’s exact words for the mousse was “maybe the best of my life.” The black Forrest was different than what I’m used to. Not as much cherry, more light and airy sort of cake. The chocolates melt in your mouth. Super moist and not too rich. The almond clusters were made with natural almonds, you can tell, and chocolate. Highly recommend you make a stop here.

Known for being the oldest bakery in Lisbon but I argue not for being one of the best. I don't think the building is as stunning as many claim it to be. The exterior is not much to marvel at and the interior is mostly boring renovation with a few exceptions, the stair case and the wood floors. The selection of pasties are ok but they mostly serve them cold and not fresh. You can dine in on the second floor and if you do, I would advise you to stay away from the brunch menu. You are better off choosing the things you want to eat (who needs 3 drinks?!) and it will cost way less. I also thought the service was a little strange. They would recommend items and we would order them and then they would come back and say they don't have that item today. I don't think this is a great sit down and enjoy your food place. The ambiance is just like any plain cafe. If you want to stop by and get a taste of this place, I would recommend you just order a pastry or two and just enjoy it at the bar tables down stairs or outside if it's not too chilly.

I think this is the oldest bakery in Lisbon, since it is from 1829, incredible. But it is overrated. One problem is that it is too crowded, little space to people wait on line, and sometimes tour guides gets stops hear to tell about the place and order coffee to the people in the tour, which sucks since one person in line but order for 20+ people. The employees lack organize the work between them. For example the one who did make coffee did go to take delivery a customers order to to the table and in few mins the rest of the waiters did not look if someone was making coffee. I did pay and waited 10 mins to someone make my Americano and get it to my table with the desserts i did order. The next problem is that all the desserts is prepared and not fresh. I ordered the famous Pastel de Nata and tartes de maca (apple pie), the Pastel de Nata was just cold and i read that it is best to eat warm which i agree, i would rather recommend eating it Pasteis de Belem where it is fresh and warm.
