cannot put into words how much i love this place. went once randomly for a coffee when I was walking through the square, saw the cake pictured below in the cabinet, ordered a slice to go, was so enamoured by the cake box and the delicacy of it all. cake was, of course, perfect. over the next month i went back to confeitaria nacional about 5 times, always buying a slice of cake. i took cake to the park with friends, even. the coffee is good too. there is a woman with long dark hair who served me in the upstairs section of the cafe who always said thank you to me, when i would say thank you to her. she is so charming. my only critique is how many americans who seem to frequent the place dont understand how queues work, but alas, that is not Confeitaria Nacionals fault. FIVE STARS I MISS THIS CAKE SO MUCH

Confeitaria Nacional is a beautiful and historic pastry shop in Lisbon that offers a delightful breakfast experience. The elegant decor and charming atmosphere create a perfect setting to savor a delicious meal. We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast at Confeitaria Nacional, indulging in their delectable pastries and coffee. The service was friendly and efficient, and the staff were happy to recommend their favorite items. The pastries were fresh and flavorful, with a wide variety of options to choose from. The coffee was expertly brewed and complemented the pastries perfectly. Whether you're a fan of traditional Portuguese pastries or simply looking for a cozy place to enjoy a leisurely breakfast, Confeitaria Nacional is a must-visit.

Known for being the oldest bakery in Lisbon but I argue not for being one of the best. I don't think the building is as stunning as many claim it to be. The exterior is not much to marvel at and the interior is mostly boring renovation with a few exceptions, the stair case and the wood floors. The selection of pasties are ok but they mostly serve them cold and not fresh. You can dine in on the second floor and if you do, I would advise you to stay away from the brunch menu. You are better off choosing the things you want to eat (who needs 3 drinks?!) and it will cost way less. I also thought the service was a little strange. They would recommend items and we would order them and then they would come back and say they don't have that item today. I don't think this is a great sit down and enjoy your food place. The ambiance is just like any plain cafe. If you want to stop by and get a taste of this place, I would recommend you just order a pastry or two and just enjoy it at the bar tables down stairs or outside if it's not too chilly.

I think this is the oldest bakery in Lisbon, since it is from 1829, incredible. But it is overrated. One problem is that it is too crowded, little space to people wait on line, and sometimes tour guides gets stops hear to tell about the place and order coffee to the people in the tour, which sucks since one person in line but order for 20+ people. The employees lack organize the work between them. For example the one who did make coffee did go to take delivery a customers order to to the table and in few mins the rest of the waiters did not look if someone was making coffee. I did pay and waited 10 mins to someone make my Americano and get it to my table with the desserts i did order. The next problem is that all the desserts is prepared and not fresh. I ordered the famous Pastel de Nata and tartes de maca (apple pie), the Pastel de Nata was just cold and i read that it is best to eat warm which i agree, i would rather recommend eating it Pasteis de Belem where it is fresh and warm.

Waiting time at this place is ridiculous, even when there are several tables empty and they have plenty of staff to cover. We waited over 27 minutes to get our coffee and warm snack after finally being able to order. In the process we saw several people sit only to depart due to how long they waited without being served even after being told by the waiter that he would be right with them. Very dirty place with napkins flying everywhere and no one picking up. Pigeons jumping on tables and no one to wipe them before guests sit down. The coffee and the snacks were good, this place is know for that but do not come here if you’re on a tight schedule or have something to do, or someone to meet around the same time. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Service available in Portuguese and English. Payment accepted with cash or card.

My family and I decided to bring back some packaged treats for family and friends. We were informed that they are sealed and that they are good up until their expiry date (we purchased them earlier today). The expiry date stated that they were good until December 29, 2018 (more than a month from now). We just got home and found out that every box contains some moldy pieces. Unfortunately we didn't noticed until we got home as some of them are hidden by the packaging. I would advise against buying any of these as the best before date is clearly not accurate. I am extremely disaapointed considering we spent over 50 euro on these and will probably end up throwing away most of them.
