My daughters and I were super excited to come back to this restaurant. We had been excited to return as last year we had some of the best pizza we had ever eaten. However, this time was different.
We ordered the same two pizzas we had last year. The Bastardo and Rossio. Last year, the Rossio, the mozzarella was left whole so when you cut into it the cheese oozed and added an immense amount of flavor. This year, the cheese was sliced. Plus, the base of the pizza had almost little to no sauce. So it was actually quite a dry pizza.
The Bastardo had such thin slices of apple, their flavor was impossible to detect. And the meat was very heavy-handed. It was not well balanced at all.
I did enjoy the salad we ordered. However, it's hard to screw up arugula, fresh tomatoes, and mozzarella.
The service was also exceptionally disappointing. While I did feel our table was attended to, I didn't feel like the team cared about their job or the clients. A napkin had blown off the table next to me and was in front of one of the servers. In front of the door. He did not pick it up. I got up from my seat and picked it up to put in the trash. There's so much trash around, you would think that the people residing in Lisbon, especially those that depend on tourists for work, would care to keep the city clean.
Lastly, and most infuriating, was that the bill was paid in cash. But the server did not bring me my change. The amount was not large, just a few dollars, nevertheless it is up to the patrons discretion to offer a tip. And I certainly did not feel our experience was worthy of one.
I will add, that although they close at 11:00 p.m., they were advising patrons that approached for a table at around 10:00 p.m. that only take out was available. If I was the business owner I would be furious.
I visit Portugal a few times a year, and love to recommend places to friends and even tourists. This restaurant will be a hard pass...
Read moreAlthough in the touristy part of the Baixa, this restaurant is top notch. The pastas are cooked properly and the sauces are traditional and delicious. Pizzas are large enough for two and the faccacio is thin and seasoned with garlic olive oil snd rosemary. Just the way faccacio is supposed to be. A good cocktail list helps albeit they are a little thin on wines and very thin on beer. Service is very good and there is plenty of outdoor seating. If you want indoor dining you need reservations. Overall this is the best Italian restaurant we have found in Baixa and we give it 4 clams on the coveted Five Quahog Rating Scale. This is our second visit to this restaurant and we are still very pleased with the food and the service. While we no longer think it’s the best Italian restaurant we have tried it is certainly in the running. They are woefully short on wines snd beers but the food is very good. We still give it four clams on the coveted Five Quahog...
Read moreI recently visited this restaurant it completely disappointed me. Not only was the food mediocre, but the staff tried to trick me into paying more for bread and olives.
Upon being seated, the server brought out a basket of bread and a dish of olives, and told us that it was complimentary. However, when the bill came, there was a charge for both the bread and olives. When I pointed this out to the server, they tried to claim that it was clearly stated on the menu that there was a charge for these items.
But there was no mention of a charge for the bread and olives on the menu, and the server never mentioned it when they brought them out. It felt like a complete bait and switch, and it left a bad taste in my mouth (pun intended).
Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant due to their dishonest business practices and mediocre food. There are too many other restaurants out there that are more upfront about their charges and actually...
