Ristorante Mattarello — Restaurant in Lisbon

We came to this restaurant specifically to try the pasta prepared in the cheese wheel – a signature dish that’s supposed to come with a performance at the table. However, we were seated outside, and only after the pasta was brought to our table – without any show or explanation – did we find out that the cheese wheel preparation is done only inside.

No one informed us of this when we ordered, and we felt misled. We ended up with a completely average plate of pasta that was not only missing the experience we came for, but also tasted bland and unremarkable.

We pointed this out to the waiter, who seemed to acknowledge the mistake – but nothing was done. No apology, no compensation, no discount. We paid full price for something that was clearly not what we ordered or expected.

To make things worse, we were told there were no tables inside, yet we saw other guests being seated indoors after we arrived – so that didn’t feel very honest either.

Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. Poor communication, underwhelming food, and inattentive service. Definitely not worth the hype...

From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm smile and a cosy, contemporary atmosphere that blends Italian elegance with Lisbon’s laid-back vibe. The open kitchen is a nice touch – you can see the passion in every pan and every plate.

The fresh pasta is truly next level – silky, perfectly al dente, and clearly made with love. The truffle tagliatelle was rich and aromatic, and the burrata starter? Creamy perfection. Portions are generous, flavours are bold yet balanced, and presentation is spot-on.

The wine list features beautiful Italian selections, and the staff were happy to recommend a pairing — knowledgeable without being pretentious.

Authentic Italian restaurant in the Heart of Lisbon!

I recently had dinner at Matarello Italian Restaurant, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, perfectly blending Italian charm with Lisbon’s vibrant spirit.

For my main course, I had the seafood pasta, and it was simply outstanding fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Every bite tasted like the sea, with a rich sauce that felt both comforting and refined. For dessert, I tried the pistachio cheesecake, and it was heavenly smooth, creamy, and beautifully balanced, with just the right touch of sweetness.

Beyond the delicious food, what really stood out was the attentive and genuinely kind staff. They even helped me sort some change for the parking machine for street parking.

I’ll definitely be coming back when visiting...
