The coffee itself is top quality and staff are nice. We've gone multiple times on our holiday as huge coffee fans, yesterday however there was something off. We were given dairy iced lattes instead of oat milk and not having had dairy in over 10 years and my girlfriend 7 we tasted something was wrong.
I initially went straight to the till saying I think they gave us dairy. They checked the order and said it was oat so I went back to my table, I didn't want to make a fuss if we had made a mistake, to get them to make another coffee or say the staff were wrong if they were not.
We tried to drink the coffees over the next 15 minutes trying to figure out of something was wrong with it or just our perception.
Eventually along with the very sour taste that you get when you've not had dairy a long time, our stomachs started to react and we both started to feel ill (I had some vomit come up my throat), I had drank a third of it and my girlfriend two thirds.
I asked to pay and once again said I thought this was made with dairy and we felt a bit sick from it, so Carlos got his manager, who said she double checked and it was made with oat milk but if we want we can get new ones and could we move to let people eating have that table instead...
We got them for takeaway and this time they were perfect, a world of difference, Carlos apologised and said they usually are good with these things, we paid and left. Thanks for sorting that out and having them remade but we were both feeling ill still, and I had one pissed off girlfriend on my hands, and that could have been avoided.
While I probably should have pushed harder I didn't want to do so and be wrong, mistakes happen I think more concern should be raised if somebody brings it up as people could feel worse...
Read moreSecond time I came to this restaurant (I first visited the one in Belem). It was very nice, but I don’t give it a 5 star review because the other restaurante is better in many ways. The services was good, tone of the waitresses was super nice and very attentive, the other one (skinny, tall with glasses and long hair) was okay but barely noticed us. She was waay more friendly with the other costumers next to us, I don’t know why, we were very friendly to her. At the other local they were very hospitable and attentive, so I can’t help but compare. The local is smaller and they don’t have tables with enough space for three chairs, instead my mom and I sat in the backrest seat facing one tiny side of the table and my brother in the other side, instead of putting a chair in one of the other sides of the table that were left empty. The food was nice but the salmon on the salmon toast had a kinda strong raw seafood flavor, at the other Folks it tasted like heaven, because it was better marinated and was delicious. The highlight was the 70% chocolate mousse with salt flakes and raspberry. Insanely good. Maybe I’m being biased but I can’t stress this enough, the Folks in Belem is king. I had a nice...
Read moreCool music, but it started out a tiny bit too loud for this lady in her mid 50s, but they turned it down (maybe someone else thought it was too loud and asked them to lower it?). Polite professional staff who spoke English. I ordered a coconut flat white, and it had teensy bits of coconut in it, and was not made with coconut milk, like in the states. I really liked it- a change of pace, and not too sweet. My hubby ordered a double espresso, and puckered every sip at the strong bright flavor. 😆 He really enjoyed his Turkish eggs, and I LOVED my eggs Benedict with mushrooms and truffle on hash-browns. The hash-browns were so crunchy and the sauce was perfection, the eggs poached perfectly! Served with some mixed greens without any dressing or olive oil. That’s the only way my dish could have been improved, although I’m guessing if I asked for olive oil and vinegar, they would have brought it, no problem, as they brought some crunchy warm toast (for 2 euros) to my hubby to sop up the yogurt in his dish. Total cost for our coffees and meals was 28 euros....
