Visconti Chiado — Restaurant in Lisbon

Unfortunately I have to agree with others who have given this restaurant 1 star. Where do I begin? I've lived in Italy for 10 years so I think I know a thing or two about Italian cuisine. I've never had such a bad Italian meal. The mozzarella in the caprese was of terrible quality and definitely not buffala. The portion was (for E 12.50) very poor and served in the most un-appetizing minimal way possible.. The risotto alla carbonara was a mockery, and probably came out of the microwave. Sticky rice-porridge with little bits of brown stuff that is supposed to be fried bacon on top. The pizzas are lumps of dough. 1 was with parma ham, which really wasn't parma ham, or of the worst quality possible. But worst of all was the carpaccio with filthy sour patches that not even remotely resembled the original intention. We (especially the kids) were hungry so we only sent back the carpaccio. The waiter passed my comments on to the kitchen. She came back with the message that I have read in other reviews here: the chef is world champion Italian cooking and the carpaccio was all supposed to be like that. Unfortunately, when I asked to speak to the chef, she was not working that evening. How they got to a 4.3 score is a mystery to me. Check your receipt carefully!!! I didn’t realize until far too late that this place adds a tip automatically to your bill. We ended up tipping 18% for the worst service in Lisbon because we didn’t realize we double tipped.

excellent food and drink, however service was horrible. I came on a Wednesday night and there was only two tables seated in the restaurant. But somehow it was impossible to find a waitress when I needed anything. After dinner I wanted to get dessert, and for 20 minutes I tried to flag down a waitress but we were being completely ignored while she counted money in the drawer. Finally I went up to find a waitress myself and tapped her on the shoulder to ask for a dessert menu, and she just looked at her watch first even though we were 90 minutes until closing. We came with high expectations due to the nice setup and the good menu. Unfortunately our expectations were not met at all. Maybe we are to spoiled coming from Berlin, a city with excellent cuisine….seeing that so many people love the food here ( other recs). In our opinion The dishes are completely overpriced regarding the quality. It could have been any cheap Italian at the corner. Poor seasoning, bad balance of ingredients, the parmigiana had nearly no tomato sauce but far too much mozzarella. A cheese chewing. The gnocchi had nothing to do with gnocchi. They were huge balls with no taste whatsoever, swimming in butter.The food was just truely below average. The high prices are therefore not justified. We ate for half the price and had better dishes in Lisboa. The bread and the negroni were very good, and made with love and finess.
