It was our first time in Persimmons. The food was okay - my highlight was aubergine rolls, but the portions were quite small. Especially, for the mains, no side dishes, salad or bread included. The beef was overcooked, the persimmon cake was extremely sweet. The khachapuri had truffle in it that wasn't obvious from the menu and IMO only overwhelmed the dish.
The service was very chaotic. There was noone welcoming the guests and we felt lost for a few minutes, not knowing whether to go up or down the stairs. It took 40 mins to bring a cocktail, a few questions we had about the menu weren't really answered. Servers weren't very attentive and we had to signal a few times to ask for more drinks, etc. We were very surprised to see a 10% service fee added to the bill. It is not common in Madrid, especially, for the service that wasn't really there.
Another lowlight was the seating. We were at a high table that was not suited for a sit down dinner. It was about 30cm wide and 70cm long. Barely fit two plates and two glasses. We had to be extremely careful not to break anything. The high chairs were not comfortable, there were no hooks for jackets. It seems that the restaurant is more concerned with the aesthetics than the actual comfort for its guests.
Overall, we were...
Read moreMy last discovery around Justicia. Atmosphere is 20/10, really. Cocktails are REALLY good if you’re into strong licor with some flavors added (I really enjoyed them and “hangover” is almost imperceptible the day after haha) The servers are beyond nice (and I really mean that). Henry took care of us and gave us really nice recommendations. What was not cool and nice from this place? Telling a hungry girl after two drinks with Chacha on empty stomach that the food she ordered 10min before the kitchen was supposed to close is not coming, because the kitchen is closed. Certainly, NOT nice. And don’t come after me saying “the kitchen works sooo hard from very early, they deserve to rest” I agree. But this is a service business after all. And you pay for it, it’s not free. Tell the people till what time they are able to put an order. Otherwise, make the dish or offer something. Nop, they didn’t and it was super disappointing. So sad we’re getting used to this low standards on service in Madrid, bcs honestly I cannot say it was a bad service after all, according to Madrid standards. And please, do not put the blame on the server, he was trying to do his job. You should have offered me something, even if...
Read moreExcellent choice!!! We had the Sunday brunch today. We stayed downstairs and I was sceptical about the food. I live in the area and I find restaurants in Justicia usually snob and pretentious. I have to admit I was impressed positively with the place. The brunch is not cheap: 45eur but automatically the crowd is nicer, international and respectful. In the end it was an awesome experience. One of the owners came to say “hi”, the staff was polite and friendly asking for advices and improvement areas . Finally the food was generous, tasty and colourful . It is Mediterranean style tapas with a Georgian touch. One small detail that made me blushed: I loved the apple pie part of the brunch set of desserts and we were already in the street and the waiter brought me a piece of the tart for free for take away. Incredibly sweet. Kudos to the waiter who had the idea. I will come...
