Cafe de Paris Interlaken
Only thing in common with cafés in Paris and Café de Paris in Interlaken is the cigarette smoke and the obnoxious waiter. That's about it. A lot of smoke. So choose to sit inside. First clue, the ashtrays on the tables outside. Hey, if you still smoke in the XXIst century, time to get the memo! If you promote it, worse! The food. The Greek salad is some concoction with too many ingredients, cubes of cheap feta cheese, all floating in a deluge of balsamic vinegar. Which is Italian... not Greek... And not cheap. Service. First, the greeting was strange, and kind of no time for you. No name, no introduction, some vague non acknowledgement. Interlaken is known for its pristine high quality water, tap of course. So asking for water should return some answer if you prefer the local cru, or a choice of bottled water. No, the answer was that the water is listed in the menu, with a sarcastic look to make you look stupid, while the waiter picks up the menus, meaning, too late sucker. Rude, not necessary. Time to pay. The same waiter dropped the bill on the table and went away. It is common in Europe for the waiter to wait as they are all equipped with portable devices that can process cards and print receipts on the spot. But no, he preferred to go around and disappear. And another waiter would not process the transaction. So after waiting, and being tired of the smoky environment, we had to chase him. Clearly! And guess what, he told that he only had 2 hands. Obnoxious. Location is so so, on a busy street, so expect traffic noise, and its inherent pollution. So thank you faux Café, you deserve the truth. In Interlaken, walk a little, out of the tourist traps and you'll find much better food...
Read moreWe were 8 people in total, it was our first time ever here (meaning we don't know the place or what they serve) and we waited already 15 minutes to get a single menu.
Then a waiter finally came to us, as it was Sunday late morning, we just asked if it was possible to have a brunch and he said "NO BRUNCH" then we asked if it was possible to have a coffee and he said "no coffee here, only outside or at the bar". Then he just said "look at the menu I have no time for this".
He didn't even take 30 seconds of his precious time to simply say "Hi guys, just keep in mind that we don't do brunch here, it's only for lunch and if you want a coffee you will need to move on the bar side".
As this person was rude as hell we all left the place and we told him that he could have just been nicer and he didn't care at all and just said "What is brunch". Good for you if you can afford to loose a table of 8 because you don't have time to offer minimum service to people that make your business run.
If you want to have a nice brunch in Interlaken I highly recommend going to coffee The Aarburg Hotel & Café instead. We went there as we left this terrible place and it was absolutely amazing with a better view and very nice...
Read moreWe had dinner at Cafe de Paris last week. We were 2 adults and 2 kids. The food was just ok. It isn't worth the visit and price. I gave 2 stars because the tomato soup was good, but the main dishes were average. The service was very slow. After we placed our order, a big group of people (14 people) sat on a table next to us. And for our bad luck, they were served by the same waiter who took our order. Once they came, the waiter ignored us and forgot to bring our main dishes (1 hour and 15 minutes until he served our main dish after we finished our soup). Tables around us were served by different waiter (came after us) and received their meals, including dessert, even before we received our food! Before we placed the order, I asked our waiter if they have pasta with cream sauce or breaded mea/chicken. He said No. Later, the table in front of us and the table next to us (were served by a different waite) gave the kids the kids' menu. I saw their order: pasta with white, and the other kids had chicken nuggets!!!
Slow service.....
