"Never Again! Dine at your peril." We have been visiting the Ox restaurant for several years every time when we are in Interlaken. The food in the past was good and as well the service. However, our last experience was a disaster; a genuine show of distain for us as customers, with the waitress Marta. From the time she approached our table, no greeting after asking what's our order she said in a very rude way "Be quick!!!" While we are giving orders she was rolling her eyes!!! There were two salmon orders one with potato side dish and another with vegetables, I specifically said that. After putting order on her phone (electronic ordering) she read back the order to me and when I corrected her that one of dishes should have the vegetable side, she again rolled her eyes and said "Now I have to redo it!!!" Her attitude and tone of voice was extremely rude!!! Never have we ever ordered a steak or burger and not be asked how we'd like it cooked. When a member of the party requested that the buger be done "medium", she said there is no choice, the only make it well done. Additionally, she was vey unattentive, as we witnessed another couple across from us in the same dining corner ask repeatedly for different things, and at the end when they were paying the bill she was bold enough ask if the wanted to leave a tip, YES a TIP for such service!!! It's not a European tradition nor a requirement to tip, especially taking into account Swiss prices and waitstaff remuneration, but we always tip out of curtousy to the service personnel. When we finished eating, she came to us and asked: "Did you finish?! Do you want anything else?! Do you want check!?!" YES, this time with a super rude tone and attitude. After bringing the check we paid by cash in bills exceeding the check value. She took the cash, not even asking if we either needed the change and said "THANK YOU, BYE!" That was ridiciolus!!! All this after settling to sit in the back right corner of the restaurant where it was uncomfortably hot. She is the worst waitstaff person we have ever come across travelling across Switzerland and other European countries! To the management of the OX restaurant, your food is good but definitely not worth having to experience such embarrassment , but the service that we received was abysmal. Culturally, it is not in every person to protest unless physically harmed but this was unacceptable. For these reasons we, or any of our clients booked for Interlaken will not be patronising with the chance of such an...
Read moreLet’s begin, Waited awkwardly out the front for too long and was only offered a small table inside while there was clearly plenty outside, sat down and only after waving a waiter over (which only worked the 2nd time as the first time I was ignored) did I manage to place my “order” the waiter barely spoke any English (or French for that matter) and I literally had to take the notebook and write my own order in because the waiter didn’t know what the word “rare” meant.
For context I ordered the 69 CHF t-bone (supposed to be 500g) and a pint of unpronounceable beer.
I understand that we are in Switzerland and things are expensive so I will accept this price, however…
This has got to be one of the worst steaks that I have ever eaten in my life, it in fact was NOT rare and rather half well done and half medium well, I do understand that it is difficult to cook a T-bone steak correctly however I would encourage that if you cannot do it that you shouldn’t put it on the menu!
As for the “potatoes and vegetables” I think that it is better if I do not comment.
Needless to say I did not stick around for dessert :(
In conclusion, This was very poor in terms of food quality, I can tell that the service staff meant well and seemed friendly, but I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt and assume that they were simply understaffed on this day.
I don’t particularly like leaving bad reviews but in this case I think it prudent as to save other travellers from wasting 80+ CHF on dissatisfying, overpriced (even for Swiss standards) and low-quality food.
I hope this review enables change for the better.
With all the regards I can muster.

Read moreThis is the place to be - if you want a schnitzel that has pools of oil served, skin is not crispy & for some reason tastes like curry (looks very artificially yellow). Fries that accompanied the schnitzel was soggy and wet, even Maccas does fries better than this.
This certainly lived up to the expectations that food in Switzerland is very bad. I would be completely understanding that maybe something like Italian pasta is not done well, but to not even be able to have the basic skill of frying is beyond imagination. I thought at least schnitzel should be something easy as I’ve read that it is generally a popular dish enjoyed in Switzerland by kids/adults, albeit origins from Austria.
Also had their mango salad special where the salad dressing tasted exactly from the supermarket. Combination of the flavours severely unbalanced with the huge chunk of cheese they served on top as it is. Presentation, gross. Taste, vomit.
Furthermore, there was a family next to me where they had raw steak and returned it to the kitchen - seriously, how can this be possible.
Service wise - took 10mins from order placement for water to be served at the table. Took another 15mins for the above food to be served.
Not sure why this restaurant is open. I understand why people eat cup...
