Let me start by saying that this is the most EXCELLENT dining experience we’ve had in Switzerland and is a contender for the best we’ve had in Europe! From the outside, it seems like an average cafe with its understated exterior. What lies within is anything but ordinary. The owner, Jacob, is the most passionate business owner we’ve met and translates his love directly into this restaurant. After receiving a warm and inviting welcome that consisted of an explanation of each item and the care behind the quality ingredients, we were sat and began ordering. My girls ordered the handmade yuzu lemonade that rivaled the best we had in Japan. Two of the adults ordered the pistachio affogatos that were TO DIE FOR!! After tasting the yuzu lemonade, I had to have one myself. My girls are addicted to goulash soup and confidently proclaimed this as “the best they’d EVER had.” After a taste, I realized why. The complexity was perfectly balanced with a spice that hit hard and receded quickly, leaving you ready for the next bite. I decided to build a salad with a ridiculous amount of toppings. Each were perfectly adorned and of the highest quality adding complexity, texture, and flavor. The other two adults ordered beef bowls that silenced them upon first taste. Lol with this group, that’s a feat. The atmosphere is beautiful, clean, and upbeat offering an inviting and bright dining experience. All this to say, do yourself a favor, and visit Jacob as a guest in what feels like his second home. I doubt you’ll find a disappointing option on this menu. We plan on ordering dessert after our meal. After tasting the pistachio gelato, I know it will be a win.
Follow up to include the most magnificent desserts! Each dessert, much like each savory item, was made from local ingredients of the highest quality and with love. The Italian lady who served us had a genuinely welcoming smile and explained their specials (Detox grapefruit sorbet and Swiss Milk, a charcoal-coloured, mild, vanilla). We were able to taste quite a few flavours; she was very patient and kind in answering my questions. I got the chocolate, salty caramel and grapefruit and they were excellent! The rest of my family also loved their choices.
While we were there, someone came in urgently asking if the cheesecake (pastry, not the gelato flavour) contained cashews. This person claimed their son had a “severe cashew allergy” but didn’t mention it when purchasing the cake because it was vegan and they “assumed it wouldn’t have nuts”. 🤦🏽♀️ They tried to make it sound like the employee’s fault but the employee gently responded that there was zero mention of an allergy beforehand and that many vegan products contain some form of nuts. She handled the situation professionally and the person left.
