Absolutely the Best Burgers in the Region
After a string of disappointing meals at other local spots, Republic Zermatt completely restored our faith in the food scene here. The burgers are simply the best we've had in the entire region—juicy, flavorful, and clearly made with care.
The burger buns were really delicious.
The fries deserve a special shout-out: fresh, crispy, and actually tasting like real potatoes. Unlike the bland, spongy fries served at some of the mountain restaurants like Trockener Steg, Schwarzsee, or Klein Matterhorn, these are the real deal. Thank you, Republic, for using what genuinely seems to be actual potatoes and not frozen, factory-produced GMO fluff.
Their beer selection is also impressive, with a wide variety on tap and in bottles to suit every taste.
The staff were friendly, relaxed, and easy to interact with—none of the stiff, awkward service we've encountered elsewhere in Zermatt’s more old-fashioned medieval restaurants, including the super-expensive ones.
Even after a 15-minute walk back to our hotel, the burgers were still fresh and delicious. The vibe inside the bar is warm, welcoming, and full of character.
All in all, Republic Zermatt is a must-visit. Highly recommended for anyone looking for quality food, great drinks, and a laid-back atmosphere.

Read moreCame here with high expectations given the reviews. I ordered the spicy burger but specifically asked for jalapeños on the side, a request the server said would be no problem. After about 40 minutes later, our food arrived - with a mound of jalapeños on the burger underneath the cheese. The server apologized that the kitchen was busy so they “forgot” about the request. As I disappointedly began picking off the many jalapeños, and pulling off all the cheese attached to them, the server ran back, and said “oh wait this one is yours” and replaced the burger in front of me with another burger - that also didn’t follow my request and had the jalapeños on the burger. (I don’t know what happened to the first burger, I am hoping they didn’t give to another customer because I had already touched it trying to get the jalapenos off). The burger would have been good if I didnt have to take all the jalapenos off, and thus the cheese, with them. Worst of all though, my wife who ordered the pulled pork got very sick in the night - vomiting and diarrhea. Bottom line: if you are going to pay 40 CHF for a burger, they should be able to get the orders right and not give customers food poisoning! Better off getting a 3 CHF burger from McDonalds just down the road. Very...
Read moreOrdered the beef burger and noticed after cutting it and taking one bite that the beef patty was cooked rare. I asked for it to be cooked further but was advised I would have to pay for another patty! I asked for the manager who saw the patty and said she would organise another patty, and that I would not have to pay for it. I was then told I would have to wait until all the other restaurant orders had been fulfilled. A further conversation with the manager and she said it would be done sooner than that.
New patty arrives and I have to take the rare patty out and put the new one in. I start eating my burger and taste salt. That’s all I can taste. It’s obvious the ‘chef’ has been vindictive and salted the crap out of the patty. Another conversation with the manager, who tastes the patty, and immediately agrees the ‘chef’ has been vindictive. I end up getting the burger and my drink for free - and I thank the manager for that - but unless the Republic takes action and sacks the person masquerading as a chef, I strongly recommend you find yourself somewhere...
