For our second and final night in Zermatt, my boyfriend and I wanted to try this fondue place (located inside Hotel Pollux) that we didn't get a chance to try on the first night. So we came in at around 8 and it was pretty packed, but we still managed to get a table.
To start, we ordered the green salad (6.50 Fr) - we had been eating so much cheese on this trip that we felt like we needed some greens. There was a little too much dressing, so be sure to ask for it on the side. Either way, we were happy to be eating some vegetables.
Then, we decided to order one entree and one fondue to share. For the entree, we went with the venison sausage with onion sauce and rösti (22 Fr). The sausage was just okay but it might be because I'm not a huge fan of venison. The rösti was not as good as other rösti we've had throughout our trip, but I had the idea of dipping it into the fondue and it improved it. For the fondue, we did the cheese fondue with fried bacon (27 Fr). The cheese was good but I wouldn't recommend it. The bacon made it a bit too much. It was between this one and the cheese fondue with truffles and I wish we had gotten that one instead. The fondue comes with cubes of bread for you to dip.
Finally, for dessert, we went with the chocolate fondue (12 Fr). The chocolate was nice and smooth, and was served with a side of fresh bananas, melon, and pineapple. Our waiter happily refilled our fruit place (free of charge) when he saw we ran out - which leads me to my next note: service was great in there.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience here but the food wasn't the best that I had in...
Read moreI ordered raclette, my wife the mezze platter. Food was pretty good but the service was off-putting thanks to the… more mature woman with glasses who helped us initially.
We asked to sit outside and were sent to find our own table. We sat for a rather long time waiting. Finally she emerged and asked what we’d like.
Well, we had plenty of time to decide; except we had never been given a menu, and I neglected to memorize it ahead of time.
When we asked for a menu she rolled her eyes and walked away. She returned and presented them with a sassy “voilà!”.
We ordered, she didn’t write anything down, and made us repeat parts of the order.
One of our drinks didn’t arrive until asking a second time, and part of the food was wrong, which they had to correct while we waited to start our meal.
The original server eventually left without a word (we saw her walking down the street) and the service improved...
Read more2 stars for Restaurant Pinte—because it started out strong and then kind of tripped over its own fondue fork.
The fondue was actually pretty good—cheesy, melty goodness that even the kids loved. At that point, we were thinking, “Wow, hidden gem!” …and then it slowly spiraled into "hmm, maybe just hidden."
Our kids split a veal pasta, which came with an unexpected topping: a hair. To their credit, they apologized and brought out a new one (we think? We didn’t see it come out of the kitchen so we just crossed our fingers and hoped for the best). My wife’s gnocchi was fine—nothing to write home about unless your home really loves beige food. And my curry? Let’s just say it was spinach, sweet potato, chickpeas, and a deep sense of regret. Flavor was definitely not invited to that party.
Still, shoutout to the fondue for carrying the meal like a...
