Echoing the other reviews - Kalika is definitely a must go if you're in the area.
Very reasonable pricing for huge portions, we ordered the fried calamari that came in a mountain on the plate ( which although I expected to be large given it's 250 baht but I didn't expect it to be that much!). Other food such as the Tom yum goong was delicious, as well as the stir fried vegetables - they aren't too salty like what I've had in a few other places.
The owner is an extremely friendly lady that makes you feel at home - they seem to be quite short staffed now given the wait for the food was a little long but they definitely do much to make the wait seem that much shorter, giving you free garlic bread at the start, and also making the end of the meal that much more memorable with a free fruit platter and mango sticky rice on the house.
Pricing is very fair - we ordered noodle soup, Tom yum goong, vegetables and the mountain of calamari for about 550 baht. This was a huge portion for 2 already, and if we didn't order the calamari it would have been 300 baht - very fair prices in my opinion
All-in-all, Kalika is a must go hands down. If you don't believe me, locals also walk in to sit and eat or buy takeaway, so that should be enough proof for you that this place is legit in both taste...
Read moreAbsolutely fantastic local Thai restaurant! Beautiful super fresh and authentic Thai dishes and Euro dishes too. The hostess is absolutely delightful and accommodating. Her brother does the cooking. We ate there numerous times in the last couple of weeks and were delighted each time. Homely surroundings and the food is just sensational. Others have mentioned complimentary garlic bread on arrival and complimentary fresh fruit (and sometimes delicious dessert tasting plates). Their mango sticky rice is beautiful. We only ate Thai dishes there but every single one was delicious. The crispy chicken wings are great, crispy pork with green veg a knockout, the stir fried mixed mushrooms delicious as was the stir fried chicken and ginger. There is a much flashier restaurant over the road which many tourists seemed to flock to as it seemed more western and more what they were used to at home. We tried it and it was terrible (separate review coming) with barely edible food. If you go to Karon Kalika is a must. The freshest tastiest food and warmest service you could find. If I lived there I would eat...
Read moreWe really enjoyed eating dinner at Kalika tonight! They brought out free still water, free garlic bread and free fruit with sticky rice after our meals! Sure, the garlic bread was small with very little garlic butter, but the fruit platter and sticky rice was great!
The food was really cheap and it was quite an affordable night even with a cocktail each! I particularly liked the yellow noodle stir fry with beef and also had the duck breast with greens. The duck breast was small, but I expected that for the price and it came with a decent amount of greens. The T-bone steak wasn’t high quality, but was a good size and although the cocktails had a lot of cordial in them to hide the alcohol content, they were mixed well and had a good taste.
For affordability, location and can’t go past happy, friendly staff I’m very pleased to give a good rating for tonight’s dinner! Beautiful decorative...
