Saturday evening, met with friends to celebrate a incredible find (health scare)

On route to browns we stumbled across a lovely looking independent pub. They hassled us to come in saying they had a table for 3. We explained we had a booking at Browns he explained that every bar was in competition in Bath and that we would miss out if we didn't dine there. They explained that they needed us to order food before we could have drinks. We then asked how long food would be they said 45 minute wait and allowed us to order drinks before. We asked a member of the team three times how long it would be until we got a table inside, the bartender said it would be 10 minutes it was 25 minutes at this point. The bouncer explained a further 15 minutes later that the land lady didn't want us in even though she was the one that gave us the menu! Apparently we were being too loud, even though our friend was profoundly deaf. She was asked to demonstrate her disability and consequently then left her hearing devise on the dirty table. We have yet to retrieve this as we were rushed away so abruptly. They gave us no discount made us pay for the food and wiped the table picking up the glasses before we had left. We left the venue and I stole the toilet plant whilst the bouncer was waiting outside the toilet sniggering. Talk about isolating. Further more, the Uber driver asked us to leave the taxi, so to avoid humiliation we left the plant at the Esso garage in Bath, complete with terracotta pot. I'm not going to name names. However, 2 bar staff took illegal substances and continued to sniff down the side lane. We did NOT get our...

Travellers beware. Rude, unwelcoming staff.

Update: The management’s reply below only confirms the dismissive, condescending attitude I mentioned in my review. Rather than showing any empathy or professionalism, they brushed off my experience (which was politely raised at the time) — which is exactly the problem

I have never written a 1 star review, but we turned up here in the pouring rain, excited to finally find somewhere open with live music, only to be met with one of the most unwelcoming bar managers I’ve encountered. The strictness might reflect catering to an older, fairly homogeneous crowd, but it left visitors who don’t fit the typical local profile feeling like unwelcome deliquents.

Even with a great rating, being treated like dirt in a place that should be fun is exactly what a 1-star review is for. It nearly ruined our night, and no amount of cozy interior or live music could thaw that standoffish attitude.

If you’re expecting a warm welcome or any sense of basic hospitality, be prepared to be surprised… and not...

I have been there on 12/December and experimented a very bad experience in just 15 minuts. We ask if is possible to have a Alchoolic drink if we order just a dessert and one of the waitress said yess, then we order a coffes and ask for the menu, the food menu doesn’t have a desderts on so we asked them and apparently they dont server desserts... what??? Yes... them one of the waitress ask me tonput the mask i told her that im exempt to wear that and i have the proof on the table she said there is bo exempted person everyone have to wear that??? I sayd i don’t need and look, I’ll show you is on the table, she said VERY UPSET “ok, doesn’t matter”. Also we recieve finally our bizarre order. 1 full late (plate inclusive) and 2 cups with expresos (no on a plate) we ask for some spoon and recieve just one, also adk for a Sugar and receive some sugar in a pot w/ nothig to server.... VERY BAD STAFFF,...

The Grapes pub has been renovated in recent times and now presents very well. I went there for a Pub Choir evening and there were a lot of people attending. The bar staff managed to serve everybody efficiently. This pub also has a very good room upstairs called the Pocock Room which has beautiful ceilings and looks good since it's been redecorated. This would be ideal for events and functions. The photo shows some of the crowd attending the choir evening and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. We had plenty of laughs!

You probably know that most everything in Bath has history. This has been a pub since the 18th Century. I used to come to The Grapes 26 years ago when I lived in Bath. I walked in today half-expecting the same comfy old pub. Like so many times in its history it’s had to reinvent itself. I miss a bit of the nostalgia of the cozy old pub and I’m grateful (grapeful?) it was saved by the current owners. Cool spot. I need to come back when there’s music.

Excellent little place. Was a hailstorm and I ran down the street, inside to be met with a quiet scene but Irish music and lovely local beers. Great atmosphere and by the time we left an hr or so later, the place was full but socially distanced with everyone abiding by the rules and enjoying the music.
