Me and my girlfriend came away to Chester for our first weekend city break together and we were looking for somewhere to stay that had character. We chose The Golden Eagle mainly because it was well-priced and well located, we were only looking for somewhere to sleep whilst we were out exploring.
Arriving at the hotel we were greeted personally by the landlord and shown to our room and told about the facilities; the room itself had a Cheshire Regiment theme with a massive en suite walk in shower, the usual tea/coffee facilities and some very quaint antique furniture. The bed was flawless, one of the most comfortable mattresses I've ever slept in, the sheets were crisp and warm and despite the rustic feel of the room, it had modern conveniences like USB plugs and free uninterrupted wifi. We were VERY impressed that the room had a record player, so I got re-acquainted with Pink Floyd, The Jam and Bob Marley while we got ready to go out.
The pub itself had gotten a little busier so we chose to have one in there before going out into town; this one drink ended up being the whole night. We met several regulars in there and had a great time courtesy of the friendly staff and the locals; this pub really had something for everyone. The jukebox has some real belters on there, the traditional feel of the pub was hiding a decent sound system (which we somehow couldn't hear in the room, very impressed!). The drinks were fairly priced, the service was quick and all the staff were very knowledgeable about local landmarks and attractions.
We chose the additional breakfast option both days; we rolled down about 9:30am to find the bar empty but for a wonderfully laid table just for us. The breakfast itself was spot on, a full English done right makes the world of difference. They accommodate my food allergies graciously and the tea and coffee was flowing as well as the lagers and shots were the night before. Some of the regulars mentioned Martin's (the landlord) Sunday roast so we stuck around for that the following day too....the staff were kind enough to look after our bags after checkout. The Sunday roast was similarly perfect, a generous few sides of beef for me and literally half a chicken for my other half along with seasonal veg, mash, roasties the works.
We had a perfect weekend in Chester, and it was largely thanks to The Golden Eagle. We can't recommend it enough and have resolved to return regularly to see more of the city and have more laughs. Thanks guys, we'll...
Read moreLovely pubMy recent visit to The Golden Eagle Pub in Chester was nothing short of exceptional. Nestled in a quaint corner, this one-room establishment exuded warmth and charm from the moment I stepped inside.
The true heart of this pub is undoubtedly its landlord, whose welcoming demeanor and passion for creating a delightful experience for every patron shone through. The hospitality was top-notch, making me feel right at home as soon as I entered.
The ambiance of the pub was cozy and inviting, with a touch of old-world charm. The wooden accents and dim lighting added to the comforting and intimate atmosphere. It's the kind of place where you can unwind, have engaging conversations, and simply enjoy the company of good friends.
Now, let's talk about the drinks and food. The selection of beverages was impressive, featuring a variety of locally brewed beers and a well-curated list of spirits. Whether you're a fan of ales or prefer something stronger, you're likely to find a drink that suits your taste. I went in on Steak night but unfortunately they had sold out but judging by the patrons already eating I had missed a treat!
What truly sets The Golden Eagle Pub apart is its sense of community. The regulars and newcomers alike are welcomed with open arms, fostering an inclusive and friendly atmosphere. It's the kind of place where you can strike up a conversation with a fellow patron and leave with new friends.
In summary, The Golden Eagle Pub in Chester is a fantastic establishment that embodies the spirit of a traditional British pub. With its charming ambiance, exceptional hospitality, and delightful offerings, it's a must-visit for anyone looking for a genuine and enjoyable pub experience. well...

Arriving at the hotel we were greeted personally by the landlord and the pub's security guard told us they were worried we didn't arrive at the time estimated and were afraid we would have gotten lost - this won my heart!
He then showed us to our room where he explained the facilities and how the service of the hotel works. He was very welcoming and gave us a homey feeling.

THE ROOMS ARE RIGHT UPSTAIRS AND YOU CAN'T HEAR THE PUB'S MUSIC... I'm so impressed by how quiet and dark it is, nothing will disturb your sweet dreams!
