This was for a graduation dinner (Congrats !), with Hitchcock’s having a lot of hype surrounding it as it is an exclusive veggie/vegan restaurant in this elusive part of the country. Having performed extensive research on this establishment, and the varying menu varieties on the website, we did not expect to be surprised by our meal out here...as there are numerous pleasant and fewer not so pleasant reviews, a dining experience to polarise.

As a concept we are there with them, however you can’t expect to run with a different menu each night and maintain quality in each dish. Our night was Thai night, with some of the dishes hitting the spot, for example the pad thai and the cucumber salad, as well as the corn ball fritters, but some others were in a bath of oil, which seeped into everything else on the plate. We think that the desserts weren’t really necessary or fit any aspect of the cultural menu, and could save the venue some space and money, and most diners are probably full anyway. That being said, LOTS of vegan options.

Food aside, the staff were lovely and there is a cheap corkage. The venue itself is a bit dark, the decor is quirky and daft. Hopefully there isn’t too much food waste after the night ends as it...

My daughter booked a meal at Hitchcocks for 3 of us for my 55th birthday - I was looking forward to it as I’ve never been before - the menu was Greek and middle eastern - when we arrived there was no record of the booking but luckily there was a table free - it was quite late when we arrived but by 10pm we had to leave as all three of us were suffering with extreme bloating and distension - didn’t even manage pudding - instead of going for a drink and chat afterwards we all had to go home feeling unwell - we all had the same symptoms and suffered pain and constipation for days - I wonder if some sort of yeast or cooking agent was used in some of the dishes - I feel I’ve had to write this as it may help to draw attention to a cooking ingredient or something that might help prevent this happening to other people - my daughter and her partner love this restaurant and are going again quite soon even though they suffered these symptoms after eating there and not for the first time - but I was very dissatisfied and would hesitate to go again without some explanation for this - it actually spoiled my birthday and...

Hitchcocks needs no introduction or explanation really as it’s reputation is quite well known, but I’m blown away every time we come. Before we first came we were apprehensive in case there weren’t many vegan options and everything would end up not suitable for us, but there’s rarely a single item that doesn’t have a vegan option (which is understandable as sometimes vegan alternatives can taste quite different - cheese), and most things end up being vegan anyway. Recently we visited and asked about the Yorkshire puddings and a plate of vegan ones was brought to us specially, there’s really no request that’s too much. The food has always been amazing and that houmous is something else! We’ve brought sceptical non-veggies in the past also and they’ve loved the food too. The staff are friendly and we always leave incredibly full, and hope to continue visiting for...

Excuse the crude way I've stacked my plate but in the excitement and anticipation of a Hitchcocks Greek night how could you not serve yourself a little bit of everything?? An absolutely amazing experience as always. Perfect for a romantic evening or a relaxed family meal. There's a few tucked away tables if you're wanting a little privacy but if you want my advice, stay closer to the buffet area.. Less far to walk up and down with your plate after your 4th helping!! Hitchcocks cater for a meat free diet and even though I'm not a vegetarian it's still my favourite restaurant in Hull, you'll leave more than satisfied guaranteed everytime. Great job again guys!

a truly unique , wholesome and welcoming venue . I adored the interior and the service was friendly and fantastic, my partner booked for 25 people for my birthday and chose the cuisine Greek. It was absolutely WOW. I was the only veggie in attendance hence why he booked it for my birthday(I’ve been dying to go for years) and everybody said it was some of the best food they’ve ever had and I would have to agree . Home cooked, quirky and heartfelt. I had the most beautiful Birthday- thank you Hitchcocks- a night to remember forever
