Do you know when you’re strolling through town and all of a sudden you find one hidden gem that lives deep within the city that is beyond your heart desires? That’s how I felt when I came across this cafĂ©. Straight off the bat I was immediately amazed by the home-baked cake and I hardly see any Cafes or restaurants that have the talent or skills to do such a thing like that. The second me and my mother (who was with me at the time for a day out) came inside we were immediately welcomed warmly by the wholesome stuff and I have never seen such wonderful service in my entire life. The staff happily engaged in conversation there was loads of options to choose from and everything was made from scratch, including (as previously mentioned) their beer. I ordered a cup of hot chocolate and a lemon drizzle cake and after order me be my mother took a seat near the window and what is easily one of the most cottage-like and cozy cafĂ©s I have ever been in my entire life. I felt like I travelled back in time to the 1950s from the 1960s it was small but had a very vintage and welcoming vibe to it which I really enjoyed. I sadly cannot remember how long are order took to get to our table but let it be known it was super quick and fast. I first took a sip of the hot chocolate and I am delighted to say it was one of THE GREATEST cups of hot chocolate in my entire life! Hot chocolatey and bursting with cocoa flavour. I even invited my mother to give it a try and she absolutely adored i! So the right off the bat the drinks are five stars! And then I tucked into my lemon drizzle cake and I am not 100% sweet tooth but I can tell you this was absolutely delicious! The cake was not overly sweet which I have a problem with cakes in general sometimes and the lemon flavour was not overly strong the cake had a perfect balance of sweetness and lemony taste that and works together beautifully. And the cake itself was beautiful and moist not crumbly and dry in the slightest. I’m not to mention they really do have the best view in Chester! I looked through the little window and I was amazed at how much I could see Chester and I have been living in Chester throughout my entire life so to see a view of which I have never seen before really astonished me which was one of the many highlights of our time (me and my mother) in this cafĂ©. Can I please also apologise to your staff for the rumours and events of when someone brought in a dominoes to eat. I do personally feel that that was extremely rude and you should not have been treated like that for your cafĂ© was absolutely incredible. Please please please forgive me for not finding you earlier as I should’ve done so long ago as this is one of the greatest cafĂ©s that I have ever been to in my entire life! I plan to return there for my 22nd birthday and boy I can’t wait!

My wife and I attended about 11.00am on a Monday after a nice walk through the meadows. It was a bit quiet in the cafe itself but in fairness we were early. We had a flat white coffee, a can of coke, and two cakes (carrot cake and millionaires shortbread). The cost was ÂŁ16 which is a tiny bit steep but the coffee was nice (not the best in chester but better than any starbucks/costa/neros) but the cake..... christ on a bike. It was lovely - honestly the best carot cake I have ever had. My wife loved the millionaires shortbread, and they were generous portions. You can tell these are home made - the quality of them is so high. The cafe itself is small but quirky and offers something more comfortable in its surroundings versus larger coffee shops in town. The service was flawless, and the place was absolutely immaculate. If it was a tad cheaper it would easily get 5 stars, but even then, it stands head and shoulders among the best that Chester has to offer.

Pleasant little stop off on Chester Walls, right by the iconic Eastgate Clock. Small but perfectly formed with the USP of its porthole window overlooking Eastgate Street and a different angle of viewing the Eastgate Clock itself. Has seating area along the Walls outside. Serves very good ice cream, recommended. Teas, coffees and tray bakes. Sells gifts. Does tasting sessions. Dog friendly. Very pleasant, polite and helpful staff. And.....its piece de resistance (saving the best bit to the last!) it sells a really, really good drop of beer in the form of Northgate Bitter premium craft beer from Chester Beer Company. It was so delicious and lovely. This is a new and unusual little place and absolutely worth supporting. Would I revisit, no brainer, big fat yes. Would I recommend? Oh, yes, indeed, have already heartily endorsed to other family members. Wishing you every success and I hope you go from strength to strength. Well done.

I did not leave the last supposedly fake review but I am the person mentioned as bringing "dominoes to eat." I was incredibly excited for my trip to Chester and seeing the Eastgate clock was top of my list. It's safe to say that the patronising and dehumanising tone this older, male member of staff used towards my partner and I was unacceptable and put a dampener on my trip. The "dominoes" was two cookies left over from the day before and we had finished them before he even approached us in the outside seating area. The issue arose as I was unaware that the seating was part of the cafe and in an extremely unprofessional manner, this was made apparent to us. He spoke down to us like children and even asked sarcastic questions such as "can you not read the sign you're sat in front of?" after we politely apologised and said we were unaware the seating belonged to the cafe and had got up to leave as asked. We have no issues with businesses not allowing your own food on their grounds or leaving seating that is for paying customers only, but my issue was the absolutely disrespectful way I was informed of this by this staff member. A previous review states that an older man was rudely asked to leave after sitting and momentarily catching his breath and I can certainly believe it, I was not only disrespected, but I also heard other members of the public being spoken to with the same condescending and rude tone. As a young woman I'm used to being patronised but I was not going to stand there and accept such a horrible attitude from someone apparently dead set on scaring away potential customers. I had even suggested to my partner to go somewhere to eat and drink and would’ve loved to have been a customer had I been treated with a little more respect. I asked said staff member for the name of the cafe, so that I would know exactly what cafe thinks it's acceptable to treat people so coldly and where to warn others of, after asking the man asked "why?" I told him it was so I knew where to avoid as I did not appreciate what I called his "incredibly patronising" attitude. I did not raise my voice or say anything remotely malicious even after being upset by this man's actions and I am not a fan of conflict so it took a lot for me to speak up as respectfully as I could muster given the circumstances but I was met with a sarcastic laugh and a "we have a trip advisor leave a review," I did not even initially threaten to leave a bad review unlike the dishonest claim in the reply I agreed to do so based on HIS sarcastic suggestion. He also told me sarcastically that "it was nice to meet you" while I left. My partner and I were shocked and actually started laughing afterwards. We just could not believe it. I for one believe it does not matter how good your food and drinks are, treating people with a baseline level of respect is paramount for any business and unfortunately this particular staff member was so rude and ungracious that I do not want to be anywhere near this establishment. It is clear that this business apparently does not take bad reviews seriously or take care to treat people with respect who do not open their wallets for them. It's a shame that visitors to such a beautiful part of Chester may be met with such a mean spirited person, simply for making a mistake and even after apologising. I will be sure to not sit in any part of this cafĂ© again. I am so incredibly upset and angry.

EDIT: The reply below is immature and demonstrates some poor reading comprehension skills. I never said I was shocked to be asked to leave with food but rather shocked by how I was spoken to by staff. I did not bring Dominoes into the café, rather I shared two cookies on outside seating we thought was for public use and apologized when we were rudely informed otherwise. Instead of apologising for your disrespectful staff, you have belittled legitimate concerns surrounding someone acting as the face of your company. YOU are lying, grossly unprofessional and treat people as if they are somehow below you. Calling me rude is...

My Boyfriends Family were visiting Chester and we took a walk along the city walls so upon reaching the Eastgate Clock my Boyfriend and his Family decided to purchase some ice creams. I cannot eat ice cream so I chose not to order anything on this occasion. However the three other people that were with me all ordered things from here and not at a cheap cost either! We sat on some seating outside and because it was located on the walls nearby the clock I thought it was public seating. I had food with me that I had already purchased elsewhere and was picking at it whilst the rest of my group were enjoying food from this establishment. An older man medium height with a bald head came along and told me “you cant eat your own food here so youll have to leave” to which I replied “why not? I thought I was just on a bridge outside” he then proceeded to say “yeah well these are our seats” I then said “okay ill just stand up then and eat” which he seemed to be fine with. Quite strange if you ask me considering I would still be stood with my group of people outside the same establishment? Not being funny or nothing but whether I sit down or stand up doesnt make a difference. Its not as thought I was just chilling on his property I was sat with my Boyfriend and his Family who all had items from the premises and I was waiting with them. Im not gonna go and sit somewhere else am I! Makes me question whether they would stop a child from eating their own food due to allergies etc. If I cannot eat something due to this then it should be perfectly fine for me to enjoy my own snack whilst the rest of the family are eating foods from your venue and promoting the business. I would understand if we sat there eating a full on maccies but come on! I had about two chips at most. Rude man who doesn’t care about his customers or business and very disgusting tone that he used with me. I am a young girl and am repulsed by the way he spoke to me! DO NOT VISIT HERE!

EDIT : number 1 - my name is not Jade as clearly stated on my profile ahahahaha number 2 - the other three people i was sat with were eating food and drink from your establishment so shouldnt be an issue whatsoever

would you make a baby starve because their milk isnt from your establishment? pathetic

your reply to my original comment is poor and you have no decent...
