Before writing this, I made Three Phone Calls over the course of 10 days to Penny Lane asking to speak with a Manager. Each time I was told that one would call me back. I have never received a call back. My Son and Daughter-in-law were going to London for a long weekend and we had agreed to look after our Three Teenage Grand Children (Two Girls & One Boy). We wanted to make their stay a little special so asked them what they wanted to do – they aren’t from Nottingham so they had a look online and asked if we could take them to ‘Penny Lane’. We had never even heard of the place but it was their choice so we agreed. We arrived around tea time and it was already very busy – we had to wait for a table and then wait nearly 45 minutes for our starters to arrive. It was around another 30 minutes for the main course. We all ate something different for our starters, we all had something different to drink and we all had different deserts but for the main course My eldest Grand Daughter and my Grandson ordered the same thing which was the ‘Chicken Burger’. They aren’t fussy eaters but neither of them wanted the mayo sauce nor the tomatoes so we asked that the burgers be made without either. Unfortunately, when they arrived they were just ‘regular’ and had everything on them. We complained to the waitress and she promptly took them away and said that new ones would come shortly. We were surprised at just how quickly the new ones came to the table and this time they were as we had ordered. We finished our meal, paid, left a tip and returned home. It was later that evening that our Grandson started to complain about having a bad stomachache. We initially just thought that maybe he had eaten too much but within an hour or so he started being violently sick. At the same time as his sickness started our eldest Grand Daughter also complained of feeling unwell and in short order she was being sick too. This continued for both of them all through the night and into the next day. It was the worst case of vomiting that either I or my husband had ever seen and the children looked terrible. Fortunately, our next door neighbour is a GP so we asked popped round and asked if he would take a look at them. He examined both and noted that both had very tender abdomens and my Grand Daughter had what appeared to be a light rash on her side and back. Our Neighbour said that it was most likely a form of Salmonella and asked what they had eaten – we told him that the ONLY thing that they had eaten the same was a Chicken Burger and he said that was most likely the cause if it had not been cooked or stored properly. He advised us to keep an eye on them and try to keep them hydrated. Thank god they started to be able to keep fluids down later that day and were able to eat a little on the following day. I can’t be certain but what I think happened is that when they remade the two chicken burgers they rushed them and didn’t cook them through properly and this was the cause of the terrible sickness by Grand Children...
Read moreWe visited Penny Lane in Nottingham around 5 pm on a Saturday evening and had an amazing time. The place was busy but had a fantastic atmosphere with a really nice, lively vibe. There was a great mix of groups, couples, and even some families with children. Thanks to the venue’s large size, it never felt cramped, and there were plenty of comfortable spaces where you could sit down for a meal, relax with drinks, or enjoy the big games section.
One of the highlights was the arcade and funfair games area. Tokens were about £1 each, and most of the games only required one token to play, making it really easy and affordable to have a lot of fun. Buying tokens was quick and simple with contactless payment directly at the machine. They also had the classic horse racing game where you roll balls into holes to race the horses, which not many funfairs still have these days, so it was brilliant to see. If you win three times you get a cuddly toy, and if you win once you receive a little medal, which added so much fun and excitement to the experience. They also had the classic 2p arcade machines where you could put some change in and play the traditional seaside-style games.
The cocktails were brilliant at two for £11.95 with a great range to choose from. The ones we had were really well made and tasted amazing. The service at the bar was excellent, and I wish I had caught the barman’s name because he was brilliant and made the experience even better.
The location is really convenient, right in the town centre, and there is a large car park next to it in the Lace Market which made parking really easy and stress free.
Security on the door also added to the welcoming and safe environment, making it a place where you can properly relax and enjoy yourself.
Penny Lane offers something truly different compared to the usual Nottingham bar scene. Great drinks, a great vibe, and a fun and unique experience all in one place. We will...
Read moreVisited with a group of friends for a birthday celebration. Unusual place. Its supposed to be retro throw back to the 70s/80s but the front bit looks like my auntie front room and the back is like skegvegas pier. The front has all decorations from the 70s/80s home including wicker lamp shades, macrame plant holders, large indoor plants including cheese and castor oil plants. Just missing a spider plant I had a good look for one but there definitely wasn't one there. Retro 70s toilets with pale pink toilet seats was a bit disappointed there wasn't any avocado ones. The back section they call arcade but its much better than the usual arcades with slot machines. Lots of real games as opposed to online stuff to challenge your mates at. Music was absolutely brilliant mix of artists including tracks from Duran Duran, the Jam, Eddie Cochrane and AC/DC. I was expecting the food to be served in a basket and was a bit disappointed when it arrived on a plate. Very well cooked and the best chips I have had for absolutely ages. Peri peri chicken was beautiful cooked and just the right amount of spices. Lovely starters but I know that hummus and tzatziki aren't that retro. Certainly worth a visit to see for yourself. I thought that they might have had some retro drinks but I settled on a pint of peroni. Thankfully they weren't serving...
