Steak 'n Shake — Restaurant in Arlington

I have been going to this location for 6 months and I continued to come because the food isn’t bad and it’s cheap. With that being said EVERY time we have come we have had awful service. We wait AT LEAST 10 minutes to be seated at a table and even longer to get our simple orders. Tonight was another one of those nights and I am officially done with all steak and shakes. We waited at the door for 10 minutes to be seated even though managers and waiters looked at us multiple times holding a child. After being seated our order was taken quickly. 2 burgers and grilled cheese kids meal with 2 shakes. One of those burgers was with chili instead of fries. We waited around 40 minutes for food to be brought to our table. During this time we listened to one of the cooks (John) yelling across the restaurant that he would not put dine in orders on plates because he didn’t want to do the dishes. It was only put on plates because our waiter walked into the kitchen and scolded him to do so. Thank you Mercedes for making this effort. If I wanted a to go order I would have gotten it to go but with a toddler it is easier to eat with plates. When we got our food both burgers came with fries and we had to ask for the chili again after the food came out. Even though it was documented on the ticket. The chili was cold as well. We did not get our shakes until we were done eating and ready to go even though they were ordered when our food was. We got once shake and then was told the other would be longer because the machine wasn’t working. While they were trying to fix it the manager that knew how to fix it was yelling across the restaurant on how to fix it and then walked out because it was the end of her shift. When we tried to talk to the manager on duty he wouldn’t offer to fix anything only offered us a free meal next time we came. The only manager on duty when we paid for our dinner was also in the kitchen cooking so we were not able to complain properly so I hope this review is seen and something is done. I am livid and will not be coming back even for a free meal because this has been offered to us after we got bad service a few times before and during that free meal we got major attitude from the manager on duty and the waiter threw menus at us after we waited 15 by the door. I had not been to a Steak ‘n Shake in a few years. I was surprised to see this restaurant mostly empty when I walked in. Steak ‘n Shake has always been busy every time I have ever visited one. I quickly found out why. No longer a hostess to seat you at a table and give you menus. You’re greeted by kiosk screens, which were the only way to order your food. You get to stand there fumbling through the stupid screens trying to figure out what you want. Not a good experience. We were ordering as a group, so I went over to the self serve soda machine to get my soda while the rest of my party ordered. The soda machine would not dispense soda. I got someone’s attention in the kitchen to let them know the machine was not working. They would not talk to me and yelled back for someone else to come out. I repeated that the soda machine was not dispensing soda. She said I had to scan a QR code from a receipt to get the machine to dispense. Ridiculous. So I waited another 10 minutes for the rest of my party to finish ordering so I could get a QR code to dispense soda. We then picked a table (they were almost all available). I found out the staff no longer even brings the food out to you anymore. They mumble something that’s supposed to be a name into a microphone and you have to go collect it yourself. Someone in my party thought the mumbling was our name. It wasn’t. They didn’t realize and collected someone else’s food and brought it back to our table. We all realized it wasn’t ours quickly and had to take it back up for the right person to collect. We finally got our food. My Frisco Melt, which used to be my favorite years ago, was pathetic. Bread was not properly fried and still soft on the outside. The cheese was not melted and still cold in spots. There was barely any sauce on the sandwich. This was not the food I remember getting when I frequented Steak ‘n Shake. The portion of fries was also ridiculously small in comparison to what you used to get. Even the Dr Pepper from the soda machine was lacking in syrup and tasted more like seltzer than Dr Pepper. Overall this was a terrible experience. 3yrs ago-I really wish I could give this place no stars. We used to come here pretty regularly, simply because it was a nice treat for the kids. Over the last 2 years we have been maybe 6 times and every time is worse than the time before. Today it took us over an hour, after being seated, to get our food. The place they sat us had a big pile of stuff on the floor, like they were sweeping but forgot to pick it up. We all stepped around it and then our waitress looked down, noticed it was there, and proceeded to walk through it the entire time we were there. I had to use a baby wipe to clean the tables because there was ketchup all over and apparently they didn't notice all the red left over on the white table. We had to search tables for a ketchup bottle that had ketchup in it and the bottles were caked with grease and food from previous diners. My son had something stuck on the inside of his glass that they expected him to drink out of, would have been one thing for them not to have seen but the cup was clear and he had sprite so it was very easy to see the red thing stuck to the side. Through all of this they didn't even get the order correct and then when I asked for the cheese for burger the waitress tried to argue with me, their mini burgers are bun and meat and I had to take it apart to show it didn't have the cheese I asked for that she had charged us for.

Revised today-Shared original review 3yrs ago and came back again today 2-19-20. Waitress was nice, burger came out and the meat was smooshed to the thickness of construction paper, also had to send it back twice to get them to add the salsa to it when they told our waitress that the meat is supposed to be thin.
