The place is really beautiful, but as a barista, the atmosphere and service was wonky.
When we entered we were just stared at. I’m sure it’s cause they could tell we weren’t GA tech students which was fine (I did look like a GSU student lol considering the style of clothing I had on). But it just felt a little uncomfortable from then on out when trying to figure out the menu and stuff on our own since we were a little lost on some stuff.
When it was close to closing, we were notified, which was fine. We went to the lobby then so they could close and we looked at the rest of the interior when we were approached again and told we would have to leave from there as well, and it was closed to nonresidents/close to closing so that was completely fine. But what made it a little weird was how they let Caucasian nonresidents stay there past closing.
Turns out the lobby area didn’t even close until a hour later.
It just felt weird cause we were younger and assumed we didn’t live there but that older group wasn’t approached like that. We were waiting on them our ride but we figured they didn’t want us in there any longer so we waited in the cold until our ride came. The people that stayed were still allowed to be in there when we left.
They inside was beautiful and they were nice about everything, but you can get the kind of environment if you’re “you know”. I don’t mean to be that kind of person as it’s hard to explain and I’m very understanding considering how I work as a barista myself, but it did feel uncomfortable and just wanted to express that. I understand if it was a misunderstanding but my sibling who was with me expressed how they felt uncomfortable as well. I’m just pretty bummed because I was so excited to go there for months. It was still nice though! Very...
Read moreElegant coffee shop within the heart of midtown. If you're looking for somewhere esthetic, you found it. Things you should know: I. PARKING Daydream coffee is with Whistler Apartment building. Unfortunately parking is NOT validated here BUT it's refreshing ambience and design makes the visit worth the parking fee. When it comes to free parking, coming EARLY (when the shop opens at 9a.m.) on a Sunday will allow you to find free available street parking. We saw various spaces open. Other than Sundays, you'll have to pay for parking in a nearby garage or parallel street space. II. SERVICE Quick and informative. They'll holler your order out when it's ready so feel free to sit and get comfortable after paying. I liked that they had a sugar-free vanilla syrup option to add to your beverages ~ guilt-free. WiFi here is free and charging outlets accommodate the different options you choose to sit at. III. QUALITY I wouldn't say the coffee here is very dense. So be weary, coffee snob friends. The Americano I ordered was a little watered down & lacked the rich acidity I typically look for. The milk (or alternative milk) beverages, however, hit the mark. The cappuccinos here are delicious. As for the design? Wow. Random nooks and crannies with differing designs, all smoothly strung into an ambient harmony of leafy greens and various rock textures. IV. CAPACITY At 9a.m., the cafe may have 1-2 guests, but within 30 minutes it begins to fill up. The business is...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I enjoy visiting different cafes and try different coffees as our main hobby. We’re so into the coffee scene that we’ve both worked as baristas. We tried coming here a few weeks ago in the early afternoon but realized there’s paid parking. I don’t remember the exact cost, but I think it was around $6 an hour (no validation).
We're from northeast Georgia, so we took the Doraville MARTA line down to Midtown and walked. First off, the atmosphere and ambiance live up to the hype—this place is beautiful. However, the coffee… I ordered a hot Hazelnut Latte, but it was closer to room temperature. I get it—boiling hot coffee usually means the milk was scorched, which ruins the flavor—but this still wasn’t quite right. Plus, my latte had a lot of bubbles/foam on top. Typically, lattes should have a flat, thin layer of milk, while a lot of foam is more characteristic of a cappuccino.
On a positive note, it seems they use custom syrup, so thumbs up for that!
I'm not trying to criticize this place. Judging by other people’s photos and reviews, their lattes usually look great and well-made. It’s just unfortunate that my girlfriend and I didn’t experience the same hype we’d heard about for our first visit. We’ll definitely come back in the future though!
Also, I just wish they stayed open later—it...
