Fred's Meat & Bread inside the Krog Street Market in Atlanta, do they have the best PHILLY CHEESESTEAK around? Let's talk this through and over to find out. The bread... thin yet firm and delicious. It does not crumble apart from the juices and cheese no matter how long you take to eat it, it hold up and helps you have a mess free dining experience. We were told they make their bread fresh... daily... this would explain why the bread is just that good. How about the meat? Juicy? check.... tasty? check... plentiful and filled with cheese? check.... it meets everything I am looking for on a good philly, including the packaging it comes in which is very neat and clean. I ordered some of the french fries, and although they are good, I made the mistake of not ordering their garlic fries because I simply forgot and got too excited about my philly. The fries are a thicker cut, almost steak cut like, but still cooked well and with a crisp. Your soda selections come mostly in bottles which is perfect since I prefer a cold bottled soda over a can/bottle or fountain. If there is space on their counter top bar area you can sit there and eat or you can grab your food and eat in the common dining area with the rest of the foodies. you are ever in the area check them out and let me know what you think but be warned... they also have one of the best burgers around... Roli's Rating: Service: 8/10, You come in and order over the counter. You will be greeted with a smile and good attitude and whether they mean it or not when you order what you want they say something like "ooohh my gosh... that's a good one!!" which can only add to your excitement and anticipation of what's to come. Your name will be called out for pick up. Drinks are not self serve as they sell mostly bottled and some can sodas Price: 5/10, This is where you have to ask yourself "is it worth it?". Most of their items are over $10 or $12. The fries are about $4, The philly cheesesteak itself is $15... this is double as much as some other local spots. Is it worth it? I say it is... but only every once in a while for your bank account's sake Location and Parking: 4/10, I can't give this lower than a 4 because the location is almost perfect. It is near the beltline with a lot of shops around the area where you can walk or scoot yourself over to. The problem is the parking... the parking is rough since this area is ALWAYS busy, no matter time of day. If you need to avoid walking this may not be the place for you Cleanliness: 8/10, Impressive for how busy they are. I noticed someone cleaning over the area as soon as a guest got up off their spot Health Rating: B (87) Roli Overall Rating: 9/10 Roli's Recommendations BACON CHEESEBURGER, CHEESESTEAK, KOREAN RIBEYE CHEESESTEAK,...
Read moreAn absolute gem inside Krog Street Market! I had their Philly cheesesteak (definitely one of their most popular items from what I could tell), and wow - it totally lived up to the hype. The sandwich was perfectly constructed with tender, juicy sliced steak, melted cheese, and just the right balance of peppers and onions, all tucked into a soft yet sturdy roll that held everything together.
The ordering system is straightforward - similar to Starbucks, they take your name and call you when your order's ready. The staff was super friendly and patient in explaining the menu options, which I really appreciated when trying to decide between their various sandwiches.
Timing tip from our experience: we noticed the line started forming well before noon and got pretty long around lunch hour. Since we came around 11am, we managed to order without much wait, but I watched the line grow quickly after that. Could definitely tell this is one of the market's most popular spots!
While the prices might be a bit higher than your average sandwich shop (my cheesesteak was around $15), the portion size and quality totally justify the cost. It's definitely enough for a filling lunch. They also serve their sandwiches wrapped in paper, making them easy to eat even at the market's communal tables.
Consider this spot a must-try if you're visiting Krog Street Market, but plan your visit outside peak lunch hours if you can. Those in the know come early to...
Read moreI am a huge burger enthusiast and have made every burger from smash burgers, traditional, oklahoma, etc. and I can say these reviews seem off. Don't get me wrong, Fred's has a "good" burger, comparing it to fast food it's definitely better.
However, is it "the best burger in the city" as some reviews state? Not even close, I make better at home with Costco ground beef. You could tell they weren't seasoning the meat at all, very bland burger with american cheese on it. The only saving grace was that it wasn't dry, that's about the only positive.
We also got the Korean cheesesteak, it was pretty dry as another reviewer stated. We only had 2 jalapenos on it as well, it wasn't up to the mark on what everyone raves about. Again, there was no seasoning on this either, the flavor was of bland meat and cheese unless you got lucky to bite a candied jalapenos which again we only had 2 of them on the entire cheesesteak.
The garlic fries were the best thing on the menu, and the ranch sauce was awesome. However, saying the fries were the best thing showcases my disappointment in Fred's. If you go here at least get the garlic fries, it's the only thing that had flavor on it.
With all that said, 3/5. I would probably not go out of my way to go to Fred's at all. It does make me wonder what type of food all these other reviewers are eating, because my take on Fred's is they don't...
