The Good: I want to start by saying the food at Simpson was excellent. My friend and I shared the Biggie Sampler Platter, and another guest in our party ordered the Jerk Chicken Rasta Pasta. We also shared the Honey Curry Wings. Everything was absolutely delicious! The music was perfect, creating a great vibe, and the space itself was beautifully decorated.
The Bad: Unfortunately, the overall experience was overshadowed by poor service and logistical challenges. First, the restaurant was extremely difficult to find, especially if you’re not from the area or haven’t been there before. It’s tucked inside the ACX1 building across from Caesars. The building itself looks mostly abandoned except for one sports-themed store, and you have to walk all the way to the back. While there are posters for the restaurant, there’s no clear signage or directions on how to get there. We weren’t the only ones confused several other parties were wandering around trying to find the place too.
We had a 6:30 PM reservation and arrived on time. However, we waited 10 minutes for the hostess to greet us, and then another 20 minutes just for water and utensils. Our server, along with a trainee, finally took our order at 6:51 PM. The food didn’t arrive until 7:45 PM. Again, while the food was great, the service continued to fall short. After receiving our food, we asked again for water and my friend placed a drink order but another 20 minutes passed with no return from our server.
At that point, we flagged down another waitress who said she would get our water. During all this, we couldn’t help but notice that a table of white patrons seated near us who arrived lonngggg after us was receiving noticeably more attentive service. They were given water, napkins, and multiple check-ins without having to ask. The same waitress who brushed past us delivered water to the white patrons first, before eventually bringing us ours. When we were the ones who asked for the water!!!
We raised our concerns with the manager, who did listen but then offered the excuse that they were short-handed that night. While we could see that staffing was limited, it was clear there was still plenty of time and effort made to ensure those particular guests were well taken care of. It’s very sad that, in today’s climate, it felt like certain customers were prioritized over others. The contrast in service was hard to ignore and left us questioning why we were treated so differently.
The manager did offer a small discount $5.41 labeled as a family and friend discount. but honestly, that barely scratched the surface of what happened. To make matters worse, we witnessed at least five or six other parties leave without being seated because the hostess seemed more focused on socializing with select guests rather than seating people in a timely manner.
Bottom Line: The food was amazing, but unfortunately, the poor and uneven service made the whole experience disappointing.
As a Black customer at a Black-owned business, it was disheartening to feel invisible. The entire situation left me thinking about how white supremacy culture often shows up in subtle ways, even in our own spaces. This experience reflected the widespread ideology that gives more value and attention to “white culture” over others, especially Black culture. Whether intentional or not, the impact was the same we felt devalued and disrespected. Sadly, we won’t...
Read moreFor Mother’s Day, I decided to treat my mom to a dine-in experience. There was some confusion at first—we saw online that the restaurant might be closed, but when we called, we spoke to a sweet and vibrant woman named Tashanna who assured us they were open and encouraged us to come in.
We didn’t have a reservation, but we were seated quickly, which we really appreciated. Our waiter was very polite, and we placed our order:
My mom ordered the Escovitch fish with rice and peas I had the green market salad with salmon We also ordered jerk chicken to go Unfortunately, the wait time was extremely long. We sat for over an hour and a half. Strangely, our takeout order was ready before the food we were dining in for—which was confusing. It took over 30 minutes just to receive a fruit punch, and when the food finally arrived, both meals were cold. My salmon was ice cold, and my mom’s Escovitch fish was bland—lacking even basic seasoning like salt and black pepper. The rice was also cold.
What really confused us is that the food we receive through Uber Eats is always hot and flavorful. How is it possible that dining in resulted in a worse experience than delivery?
Even more disappointing, several tables that were seated after us got their food before us. The bar wasn’t busy at all, so we were puzzled as to why even the drinks were delayed. My mom even spoke to a man in a red chef’s coat—possibly the owner or head chef—and told him about the cold food and the long wait. He quickly went into the kitchen, which we appreciated, but unfortunately, not much changed.
My mom also ordered a hot tea, and it never came—even after we finished eating.
Final Thoughts In this area, Jamaican restaurants are not only rare—they’re almost nonexistent. That creates a huge opportunity for The Simpsons to become a staple Caribbean restaurant in the community. But experiences like this—especially on a day as meaningful as Mother’s Day—can leave a lasting negative impression.
We truly want to see this restaurant succeed, and we will absolutely give them another chance. But consistency and attention to detail, especially in service and food quality, will be key to standing out and becoming the go-to spot for authentic...

Wait time is horrendous in this restaurant We ordered our main course and was looking forward to a delicious meal it was 8:45 pm we asked the waitress what happened to our order, she then told us they were busy, had three chefs in the kitchen but customers didn't get their food in a timely manner. The table across from us left without eating. Then we decided to go to the hostess to pay for our drinks and appetizers. Upon leaving the manager came out and spoke to us.Very apologetic stating we shouldn't waited so long for our food and that's not what they represented .She also offered us three oxtails dinners. We were looking forward in having a great time with my twelve year old daughter.Very disappointed with the service and wait time at Simpsons Restaurant in Atlanta city.Mr Simpson if you read this review: According to a study by the American Customer Satisfaction Index, wait times are one of the main drivers of customer satisfaction. Customers who have to wait for a longer time than expected are 18% less satisfied. And this is an experience they take with them after they leave the business. They will probably also tell their friends and family about it, if not the world in the form of a negative online review. Ultimately, a long waiting time in the restaurant will impact not only the guest experience but also your profitability. You might lose customers on the spot or deter them from coming back to your restaurant. This is a big issue with...
