Overall Impression and Summary: The Best Western in Atlantic City presents itself as a conveniently located, budget-friendly option for visitors. However, a stay at this hotel reveals a significant gap between expectation and reality. The property appears to be suffering from a lack of proper maintenance, staff engagement, and security, leading to a consistently poor guest experience. From the moment of arrival, issues with the physical property and the surrounding environment detract from what should be a pleasant stay. The hotel is not recommended for those seeking comfort, cleanliness, or a family-friendly environment.
Room and Amenities: Bedding and Comfort: One of the most glaring issues is the poor quality of the beds. The mattresses are hard and uncomfortable, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep. This is compounded by the pillows, which are small and insufficient for proper rest, feeling more like decorative throw pillows than standard sleeping pillows.
Cleanliness: The cleanliness of the room, particularly the bathroom, is a major concern. We found multiple strands of hair and black spots, suggesting a lack of thorough cleaning. The discovery of a used butter knife under the nightstand is a particularly troubling example of the lax housekeeping standards. The general state of the furniture, such as the dresser drawers that are difficult to close, also points to a room that has seen years of wear and tear without proper upkeep.
Breakfast: The terrible breakfast offerings are a significant drawback, especially for a hotel that advertises this as a complimentary perk. The quality and variety of food fail to meet even basic expectations for a free hotel breakfast.
Hotel Property and Environment: Parking: The parking lot is a source of considerable frustration. It is small and poorly constructed, making it difficult for modern, larger vehicles to navigate. This is a critical issue in a city where parking can be a major challenge. There is also a $25 per night fee for parking.
Safety and Security: The presence of homeless individuals around the hotel and in the parking lot, who approach guests and beg for money, creates a feeling of insecurity and discomfort. This is a serious concern for any traveler, and particularly for families with children.
Elevator: The elevator is slow and feels unsafe, with a sensation that it might break down. This not only causes inconvenience but also raises questions about the overall safety and maintenance of the building.
Staff and Service: The staff's lack of attentiveness at the front desk is a minor complaint. I get it. It's a boring job. But they could at least acknowledge a guest when they walk in. The sight of staff members on their phones rather than engaging with guests suggests a general indifference to customer service and a lack of professional standards.
Final Verdict: Given the extensive list of issues—from the uncomfortable beds and dirty rooms to the challenging parking and security concerns—this Best Western falls far short of providing a satisfactory hotel experience. The overall state of the property and the surrounding environment make it an unsuitable choice for most travelers. It is especially not recommended for families with children due to the safety and comfort issues. This is a property to avoid, and a better option should be sought for any trip to...
Read moreHorrible service at Best Western Atlantic City! First, the phone line for the hotel was busy the entire afternoon I was to be checking in. I had to call corporate to get help and they too could not get through. I needed to update them of my late check in. However Lukas let me know my stay was guaranteed no matter what time I checked in. Now fast forward to check in. The gentlemen who checked us in Cruz was new and he mentioned that and we could tell. He was working alone and seemed overwhelmed, we felt so bad for him. Ook so now the toilet in the room. Kept getting stopped up. Had to call 2 times to get it resolved then was told that you need to hold down the flusher for 4 seconds in order for it to flush right. WHAT! Why does my toilet come with instructions? This ridiculous I go out of town to not have to deal with foolishness like this. After the 2nd time maintenance came to fix the toilet they just left me with the plunger to fix it myself if it happen agaon. WOWWW, unbelievable! Next issue, NO MICROWAVE! My amenities included a microwave. I didnt realize we didnt have one until I wanted to warm up some food. Called down to front desk annoyed at the fact this is another issue that could have been avoided if my room was checked before my stay for readiness. I then spoke with Linda (mngr) in regards to my frustrations and she told me that I could check out if I was unhappy. And reiterated that she did sorry and began to make sarcastic remarks about my being upset with the service and called me hostile for complaining and being upset after she said to me if I'm unhappy "you check out!" I then asked this is how you talk to your customers? She then said I was being hostile. Managements approach on problem solving in a effective manner was HORRIBLE. It wasnt about the customer addressing the problem it was more so about Linda being bothered by me being upset and her not liking being called out on there poor customer service and lack of amenities. And did I mention she made sure she told me the reason my microwave was missing is because the hotel was broken into and they were stolen. If that was the case why didn't you all replace it or mention my room may not have one? Alot of this could have been avoided with proper customer service and better communication. But now we are here a loyal customer extremely disappointed with how this hotel chain has treated me and level of professionalism it shows. I'm appalled and I will make sure this is...
Read moreFirst, let me start off by saying that at check in, this hotel had my reservation listed in my guest's name and had taken the cost of our stay out of my account the day before we arrived. Second, we were given a room that belonged to someone else. I received an email in the name of the person whose room was given to us asking how our stay was and I received an email in my guests name.
Now, on to the hotel's appearance....I appreciate the effort being made to renovate and improve this property, but more (attention needs to be placed on construction debris mitigation during this process). There were bedroom sheets placed up to every window to block the cold air. On one of the floors, there was a big hole in the wall and you could see outside. The show must go on during renovation, of course. But the show needs to look as presentable as possible in the meanwhile.
This hotel is listed as a non-smoking hotel but the grungy hallways that smell a bit like disinfectant as a cover for stale smoke. I am a NON-smoker but there were plenty of marijuana smoking going on in other rooms along with very loud talking and loud music playing. The second-hand smoke was sucked in by the bathroom vents and redirected into mine. Our room reeked from it. I complained to management, who stated that you can't always control what guests do. I expressed to him that I had to do management's job and go and speak with the rude guests because after calling management, they did nothing.
Housekeeping did not make it the room. We had to locate them and ask for towels and washcloths.
The impossibly narrow hallways smelled like mold and pot smoke. There were large bags of trash on hallways. The refrigerator in the room was hard to open and kept falling forward when you did get it open. Our room got stuffy, making it uncomfortable to fall asleep and stay asleep. The elevator goes up extremely slow and makes a screeching sound for 10 seconds before opening. The creme dela crème was at checkout...the inside elevator door had fresh vomit all over it.
