This little place... It isn't so little. The kitchen is up front and it seems like it's a small cafe at first. The staff is right there to take your order before you even sit down, so there's a regular home-like feel to the joint.
There are people using phones for e-deliveries, and a cliche of young kids, but also, and this is what piqued my interest, a work crew early in the morning by the construction. But not just blue or no collar, but an eclectic sort of clientele.
I sat down at the bar and had ordered, then looked around the place
Lol and behold, it expanded. I still can't understand why more places do this, but every available square foot is ready for an onrush of say fifty people, easy.
You have the city's finest tucked in the back on their break, very private and very comfortable. Then there is the editor, or the wayward business person.
It's a diner and a restaurant and a bar. But it's not. The service is excellent. Very friendly and bilingual. A very clean place, although you would not expect it by the surrounding neighborhood establishments which cater to the party crowd.
But the breakfast: good portions. Not great, not huge. A little wanting if that is your concern... But the taste and the ingredients used, well, that's where your money is going.
A very fine balance between quality and quantity. Yes, you can hit up a food truck if you wish. You'll get more per dollar, for sure
But the service, the meal, the perfect combination of quick, friendly, exceptional service alongside of a great dish (take your pick, I went with the three egg dish, alas no biscuits were made) you will be pleased.
If visiting Austin and you find yourself on the east side of the highway, make the trek.
It's so efficient that I think you'll enjoy all three stages of meals in a day there and wonder how you got satisfied so quickly.
It would almost have slipped my mind to write this review.
It's like I was at home and the family gave me my meal before work. Yet I could linger and chat, but why interrupt the staff from delivering satisfaction to the rest of the patrons?
Great...
Read moreWe stopped in here for lunch last weekend as a group of 4 and had a very unpleasant experience. After ordering a margarita each upon sitting down we all ordered some food and another margarita.
The waitress then came back to us and explained that the manager who was out back had decided to cut us off after the first drink for apparently no reason.
I asked to speak to him and he came out to the front of the restaurant and said he believed we were drunk whilst barely able to keep a straight face (as it was obvious we weren’t)
We had not been drinking previously and it was mid afternoon. At first I genuinely believed it to be some sort of joke. In hindsight I can only assume the manager was on some sort of bizarre power trip and doesn’t understand how to run a business.
The waitress came back over and apologised - although it wasn’t at all her fault. Genuinely offended by the managers ridiculous accusation and his conduct, we decided to pay our bill in full so the waitress was not left in an awkward situation but leave without eating our food.
As we were leaving an explanation was offered that there had been a college football game on and we looked like the type of people who might have been at a college football game. Which is funny really considering we visiting from England and don’t know the first thing about American Football, and we certainly were not...
Read moreWATCH OUT! I was looking forward to making this place a regular spot since it's close to where I live, and we heard great things. I walked into Bachata music at 10:30 AM for brunch and I was like, "ok - I like this place". Food was decent but the service was ... a little off ... for example I ordered fajitas and didn't get my tortillas until the end of the meal and the waitress seemed ... detached. I didn't think anything of it since plenty of people don't like their jobs; but after going home and staying in for the rest of the day - my credit card started pinging me about $325 worth of fraudulent transactions. After calling it in, apparently SOMEBODY (could be anybody :/) made a magnetic swipe copy of my card and after analyzing the timestamps, they were all shortly after I visited this cozy gem. Long story short - If you love the food, bring cash, but after recently moving to Austin - it sucks that one of the first Latin restaurants I visited turned out to...
