The Old German Deli — Restaurant in Big Bear Lake

We came in about 1:30 today to get lunch and stuff to cook at home for dinner. After circling for 20 minutes (there’s no parking) we figured we had plenty of time since the hours online say until 5.

We walk in and some patrons aren’t wearing masks, owner is wearing his mask around his chin and says they’re closed even though he’s handing out sandwiches. So we figure we’d get just the sausages to take home, but since it was so hard to get a parking spot and we’ll need to go pickup food somewhere else, we’d come back for the sausages.

I asked him when they were closing for us to come back and he’s yelling mask-less over the deli “Listen lady, we’re closed”. All what I asked is that since their hours are posted as open until 5, maybe they’d still have someone working for the next hour or so. Also as the deli counter is full, and he doesn’t care to try and sell those items, it makes me wonder how long those items are sitting there, not to mention all the covid he’s spewing while yelling maskless. He could have said “sorry we’ll be closing up now” and we would have purchased our dinner meats, desserts, etc but he was so hostile and unsanitary that we just left.

My guess is that since there’s a “for sale” sign in the window he’s just a miserable old man that just doesn’t give an f anymore... but negative reviews will affect the sale of your property so good...

The BEST authentic German sandwiches and sausages we've had in a very long time! Our favorite go-to deli whenever we're in Big Bear! The owners and staff are very welcoming and helpful. We never remember what our favorite sandwich is called, but they never fail to know exactly which one we want, and offer us a taste everything else we may enjoy, and let me tell you, they haven't been wrong yet.

Their German head cheese is the most flavorfully delicious one I've had the pleasure of tasting. We had these Slim Jim like jerky sticks, they are so so good! We've had their authentic German sausages and potato salad that were great too! From the beer to their jerky everything so far has been fresh...

There aren't any words to use to describe how amazing the food and atmosphere of this little deli. You walk in and the sweetest couple just immediately warms your heart with welcome, and gives that feeling of when you are a kid and go visit long lost family. The food. Was. Amazing. Every time im in Big Bear or know a person is going, this is always the number one place I recommend and will keep coming back as long as they are around. I give this place a solid 100/10. Absolutely above and beyond customer service and food quality that you can taste the love it was made with in every bite and be wanting more but too stuffed for another.
