What a gem of a spot. We reserved a party of 7 for my mother's birthday plus our 2 year old. We were walked to our table immediately upon arrival where we met our server Rose, who could not have been a more impeccable representation of Hell or High Water. She knew the menu inside and out, where the ingredients were sourced, and was able to communicate the chef's vision behind the dishes.
The menu was creative but not snobby and the execution of every dish was exceptional. We ordered almost the entire menu and every dish had well-balanced, bright flavors, the perfect amount of salt, and felt enriching to the body. Particular praise to their saucier. I could drink the sauce for the tortellini straight out of a tap for the rest of my life.
The wine list was above-average, with an impressive collection of Italians specifically. We had a bottle of the Alborino and a Willamette Pinot Noir that were excellent for their price point.
All in all, the service was thoughtful, well-timed, and gracious. The food was some of the best we've had in the area, and the dining room was well-appointed and classy without being obnoxious. We look forward to many more delicious experiences at this...
Read moreWow! Not sure why we waited so long to try this place but, we were blown away with the quality and deliciousness of the food offerings! Amazing, honestly! We added a couple of starters from the bar menu the warm olives with the salsa roja was so good, we also had the provolata which was prepared perfectly and very delicious too. Let's talk about that cornbread next, perfectly cooked and the flavor with the chicken butter and thyme was next level. My companions had the soup which I tasted and loved but I chose the salad which was crunchy and delightful, each flavor perfectly balanced. For entrees, we had the roast chicken and the jagerwurst, both very well done in my opinion and we left full and with leftovers! Definitely worth the pricing. The spaetzle was perfect, the red cabbage, the brussels, the mushrooms, just everything was top notch. Chef sent us out a very lovely dessert which was a spumoni flavored cake (chocolate & pistachio cakes with a cherry mousse!)The atmosphere and service left nothing to be desired either. Super excited for future offerings from this chef and local restaurant which is supported by their farm to table butcher shop....
Read moreWe spontaneously dropped in for a drink on our way to dinner, because we had heard such a buzz about it around Black Mountain. We grabbed a Bramble & their Manhattan (with Cointreau & Benedictine)- it was the best Manhattan I’ve had in a long time! We bellied-up along the rail outside…surrounded by mountains and sky was sublime! It was lively, with couples & small groups; country music playing & table-top fires crackling! We decided to stay for dinner & continue our experience. Scotch Olive appetizer was unusual and awesome. Our favorites were the salads! We had the shaved carrot salad & little gem salad and both were crave-worthy. The cavatelli was small but an explosion of flavor. Next time I’ll try steak tartare as they’re known for their meats. Kay & Stephen took such great care of us, giving us recommendations and just enough attention. We can’t wait...
